Job Summary: The Special Education Secretary reviews and provides recommendations on special education documents to support compliance with LEA, state, and federal laws, policies, and requirements. The position collects and compiles data and information using surveys, emails, meeting notes, and other tools. The Special Education Secretary works closely with school employees, service providers, and parents of students with IEPs to support the development of accurate and complete special education documentation.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The position includes but is not limited to the following list of representative duties:
Collect and compile data using efficient tools while maintaining FERPA requirements
Write, edit, and proofread various types of special education documents.
Develop and edit procedural documentation
Plan writing processes and establish appropriate timelines and deadlines
Create or collaborate with graphic designers to develop diagrams, charts, and other visual aids that support understanding of reports and information
Attend meetings and take accurate meeting notes.
Review special education documentation and provide recommendations to support compliance with applicable requirements
Work collaboratively with school employees, service providers, and parents to support accurate and complete documentation
Complete Time & Effort Certification (TEC) each pay period, certifying that compensated hours were spent conducting allowable activities according to USBE SER 2020 in support of special education students. Notify the supervisor if assigned work outside of special education so TEC and payroll funding can be accurately documented
Other duties as assigned
Schedule:
Typical schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (hours may vary based on campus or department needs)

Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA requirements
Ability to work professionally with school employees, service providers, and families
Proficient with Google Docs and Google Sheets
Education and Experience:
Experience with special education documentation, compliance, or administrative support is preferred
Experience with professional writing, editing, proofreading, or document management is preferred
