Job Responsibilities
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) rely on camera sensors to enable functions such as lane keeping, traffic sign recognition, and object detection. As camera performance and processing capabilities continue to increase, thermal management becomes a critical aspect of product development. Elevated temperatures can affect image quality, sensor performance, calibration stability, and long-term reliability.
In this thesis project, you will contribute to the development of a thermal validation test setup for automotive vision products. The objective is to create a test environment with controlled airflow that enables accurate thermal measurements and supports validation of thermal simulation models.
You will investigate thermal challenges in ADAS camera systems, define relevant test conditions, design and develop a thermal test setup, and perform measurements on vision products.
The work will involve comparing physical test data with simulation results to improve the understanding of thermal behavior and strengthen confidence in thermal performance predictions.
The project offers hands-on experience in product development, thermal engineering, test methodology, and experimental validation within the automotive industry.
Expected Outcome
- Evaluate the effect of component positioning, including the distance between the camera and surrounding walls, on airflow and temperature distribution
- Assess the use of airflow-guiding structures to reduce turbulence and create more controlled and representative flow conditions
- Compare alternative design concepts, including different fan configurations
- Investigate how different materials and surface properties within the setup, such as plastics, metals, coatings, colors, and surface textures, influence thermal behavior and measurement results
- Identify solutions that improve measurement reliability and repeatability while maintaining practical usability, including simple and efficient exchange of test units
Qualifications
You are a curious and motivated student with a strong analytical mindset and an interest in solving complex technical problems. You enjoy taking initiative, working both independently and as part of a team, and communicating your ideas clearly. Most importantly, you are eager to contribute to innovative engineering solutions and develop practical methods that support reliable product development.
We are looking for students who
- Ongoing Master's studies in Mechanical Engineering, Product Development, Thermal Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field
- An interest in thermal engineering, experimental testing, and data analysis, supported by basic knowledge of heat transfer, thermodynamics, or related engineering topics
- Experience from laboratory work, CAD tools, or simulation software is considered an advantage
- Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken
