Your opportunity

Sometimes the greatest support we can offer is simply to be present, to listen, connect and walk alongside someone when they need it most.

Mission Australia is seeking a compassionate Chaplain to provide pastoral care to staff and people accessing our Brisbane homelessness programs, including Roma House and our Boundary Street service in Spring Hill.

Working 7 hours per week on one flexible weekday, you will be a trusted and approachable presence across both locations, offering pastoral, spiritual and personal support while helping bring Mission Australia’s Christian founding purpose and values to life.

Your key responsibilities will be to

• Provide approachable and confidential pastoral care to staff and participants across Roma House and Boundary Street.
• Be available on-site, building trusted relationships through presence, listening and meaningful connection.
• Provide spiritual and personal support to individuals or groups with sensitivity and respect.
• Support staff wellbeing through pastoral conversations, reflective practice and an empowering approach.
• Recognise when needs sit outside the scope of chaplaincy and connect people with appropriate additional supports.
• Work alongside Program Managers and Group Activities Facilitator to develop relevant reflections, activities and pastoral care opportunities.
• Help staff understand and live Mission Australia’s Christian founding purpose and organisational values.
• Build positive relationships with local churches, Christian communities and other pastoral care providers.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality in all interactions.

Requirements for success

• Relevant theological qualifications, Clinical Pastoral Education, Certificate IV in Pastoral Care and Chaplaincy, or equivalent recognised qualifications.
• Experience providing culturally appropriate pastoral care with sensitivity and respect.
• Ability to work effectively across Christian denominations while maintaining alignment with Mission Australia’s Christian founding purpose.
• Excellent listening, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• A professional approach to confidentiality and appropriate pastoral boundaries.
• Ability to engage sensitively with people experiencing complex life circumstances.
• Ongoing commitment to personal spiritual growth in the Christian faith and active participation in a local church community.
• Current driver’s licence and willingness to work across the two Brisbane locations.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
