Summary of Job Duties

The MLS Student Employee – Blood Bank supports the Blood Bank/Transfusion Services laboratory while gaining hands-on experience in clinical laboratory science. Under the supervision of qualified laboratory staff, the student assists with routine blood bank activities, specimen processing, testing, documentation, and maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

HS Diploma/GED
Must be a current student in an Medical Laboratory Science program

Job Requirements

Provide direct patient care by supplying the patient with appropriate blood components
Issue blood and blood components to the floors
Understand the importance of massive trauma and to issue blood and blood components as set forth in the Massive Transfusion Protocol
Communicate effectively with the blood bank customers including physicians, nurses, and other UAMS Staff members
Receive samples and to ensure all samples are appropriately labeled and collected properly for the Blood Bank
Perform other duties a sneeded
