Summary of Job Duties
The MLS Student Employee – Blood Bank supports the Blood Bank/Transfusion Services laboratory while gaining hands-on experience in clinical laboratory science. Under the supervision of qualified laboratory staff, the student assists with routine blood bank activities, specimen processing, testing, documentation, and maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

- HS Diploma/GED
- Must be a current student in an Medical Laboratory Science program

Job Requirements
- Provide direct patient care by supplying the patient with appropriate blood components
- Issue blood and blood components to the floors
- Understand the importance of massive trauma and to issue blood and blood components as set forth in the Massive Transfusion Protocol
- Communicate effectively with the blood bank customers including physicians, nurses, and other UAMS Staff members
- Receive samples and to ensure all samples are appropriately labeled and collected properly for the Blood Bank
- Perform other duties a sneeded
