About The Role

The HR Generalist will provide a wide range of human resources support and consulting services while ensuring smooth operations of the HR department. As the HR Generalist, you will contribute to a positive employee experience by providing excellent customer service to all through interactions on the phone and in person. This position is responsible for overall front desk activities, including management of the reception area, customer service, phones, mail, and office supplies. The incumbent must be customer service driven with a keen attention to detail. The HR Generalist will serve as a link between the HR department and APSU staff employees and must

establish strong working relationships on behalf of the department with key personnel in other departments. The individual must interact effectively with faculty, staff, students, visitors, and other campus and community representatives, while remaining composed, proactive, resourceful, professional, and efficient. The HR Generalist must be well organized, flexible, responsive, and productive for the department. Reliability, attention to detail, and follow-through on all assigned tasks are critical to this position. The HR Generalist will recognize, handle, and protect confidential HR-related information.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the onboarding of temporary employees, including I-9 completion, creation of employees in

Oracle.

  • Communicate various human resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, and government

regulations to faculty and staff employees, department managers, and senior leaders.

  • Communicate probationary employee review reminders.
  • Monitor general human resources inbox and calendar.
  • Assist in the onboarding of student employees.
  • Monitor performance evaluation processes to ensure timely completion of checkpoints and reviews.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations in human resources; working

knowledge of emerging trends and practices in human resources.

Exercise sound and competent administrative judgment and assume responsibility for decisions,

consequences, and their subsequent results.

Knowledge of recruiting procedures and employment practices preferred.

Ability to respond effectively to all levels of staff and personalities is critical.

Ability to work collaboratively with others both within the HR Department, Finance and

Administration Division and departments and divisions across the University.

Creativity and resourcefulness are a must as is the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Must be a proactive, self-starter and resolve matters in an independent and timely manner.

The successful applicant will possess the ability to problem-solve and resolve conflict; research, analyze and interpret data; communicate well verbally and in writing; anticipate needs

and follow through; show good judgment and strong initiative; possess a cooperative attitude.

Must possess excellent organizational skills with close attention to detail and an ability to

manage multiple/competing priorities.

Physical Requirements

  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of two (2) years of recent administrative/clerical experience; strong computer literacy. Strong frontline customer service experience.
  • Working knowledge of human resources processes and best practices strongly preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree; two or more years of HR experience.
  • Salary- $40K-$43K
