About The Role
Wood’s Consulting business is looking for Engineering Placement Students to join our Subsea and Pipeline Engineering Team. This 12-month placement, starting in September 2027, will be based at our Staines office and forms part of a university degree program.
The Role
As part of our Subsea and Pipeline Engineering team, you will contribute to innovative energy transportation and energy transition projects across a range of challenging environments, including the North Sea, Caspian Sea, Black Sea, West Africa and the Mediterranean.
You will support the delivery of engineering solutions by assisting in the preparation of
- Engineering proposals
- Techno-economic studies
- Technical reports
- Material specifications
- Equipment requisitions
- Engineering drawings
This role offers exposure to a diverse range of technical challenges while providing valuable experience in delivering high-quality solutions for global energy infrastructure projects.
Our Clients and Projects
Within Consulting, our clients range from both major and independent operators of onshore oil & gas and clean energy facilities such as carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) and windfarms, through to suppliers, fabricators and EPC contractors. We execute projects from concept through detailed design, construction and commissioning on a world-wide basis. During your placement, you will have the opportunity to
- Support energy transportation and energy transition projects in challenging environments around the world
- Contribute to projects involving complex engineering conditions, including deepwater developments, extreme temperatures, corrosive products and demanding geohazard environments
- Work on world-class onshore pipeline projects involving CO₂ and hydrogen transportation systems
- Develop skills in industry-leading engineering software for pipeline and cable routing and design
- Gain experience using advanced finite element analysis software such as ABAQUS
- Assist in preparing engineering studies, technical reports, specifications and project deliverables

- Working towards a Bachelor's degree with an expected minimum 2:1 classification, or studying for a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Subsea Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- Interested in developing your engineering knowledge within the energy industry
- Comfortable using engineering and general software applications
- A strong team player with a collaborative approach
- An effective communicator with good written and verbal communication skills
- Willing to take initiative while recognising when to seek guidance
- Curious, proactive and eager to learn new skills
- Able to apply practical engineering judgement and problem-solving skills
