SENIOR RIGGER – MECHANICAL / LIFTING OPERATIONS (Mtwara)

Purpose of the role

The candidate for this role will be responsible for safely planning, coordinating, and executing rigging and lifting operations involving heavy mechanical components, mobile equipment, and plant equipment, ensuring lifting activities are carried out correctly and in compliance with approved lifting plans, equipment requirements, and HSE standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and execute rigging and lifting operations for heavy mechanical components, mobile equipment, and plant equipment.
• -
• Select and correctly use appropriate cranes, hoists, lifting accessories, slings, and rigging equipment for each lifting activity.
• -
• Interpret lifting plans, basic technical drawings, and equipment specifications to ensure lifting operations are carried out safely and accurately.
• -
• Assess load weight, centre of gravity, sling angles, SWL/WLL, and lifting configurations before and during lifting operations.
• -
• Inspect rigging equipment, lifting accessories, slings, and related equipment before use and report defects or unsafe conditions.
• -
• Coordinate and supervise rigging activities and provide guidance to riggers and other personnel involved in lifting operations.
• -
• Ensure lifting operations are carried out in accordance with approved procedures, lifting plans, and applicable HSE requirements.

• Communicate effectively with crane operators, supervisors, maintenance teams, and other personnel during lifting activities.
• -
• Maintain awareness of site conditions, exclusion zones, lifting hazards, and personnel safety throughout lifting operations.

• Maintain proper records related to rigging and lifting activities as required.
• -
• Perform any other duties related to rigging and lifting operations as assigned by management.

Qualifications & Experience

• -
• Recognized training/certification in Rigging and Slinging / Lifting Operations
• -
• Minimum of 3 years of practical rigging experience, preferably in mining, quarrying, construction, heavy equipment, or industrial maintenance
• -
• Demonstrated experience as a Senior Rigger or equivalent supervisory role
• -
• Good knowledge of cranes, hoists, lifting accessories, and rigging equipment
• -
• Ability to interpret lifting plans and basic technical drawings
• -
• Good understanding of load weight, centre of gravity, sling angles, SWL/WLL, and lifting configurations
• -
• Experience working with heavy mechanical components and mobile/plant equipment
• -
• Good understanding of HSE requirements related to lifting operations
