About The Role

Role Overview

This role supports the Controllers organization within the Retail Banking/Card business, with primary responsibility for month-end close, management reporting, regulatory/SEC support, and ongoing enhancement of financial and regulatory reporting processes and controls. The associate will partner closely with Card business leaders, Finance, Project Managers, and control groups to deliver accurate, timely, and well-governed reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Month-end close & reporting oversight
  • Prepare, review, and supervise month-end close and reporting deliverables, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Perform and review variance analysis, identify key drivers, and communicate insights to stakeholders and management.
  • Financial, SEC & regulatory submissions
  • Support preparation and review of financial reporting and documentation required for internal and external reporting.
  • Provide support for SEC and regulatory reporting processes, including coordination, validation, and timely issue resolution.
  • Recovery & Resolution / US regulatory support
  • Support periodic Recovery & Resolution appendices and other US regulatory submissions, ensuring adherence to governance and documentation standards.
  • Systems, controls, and change management
  • Review, test, and validate system enhancements impacting financial and regulatory reporting (e.g., SAP/Essbase outputs, upstream/downstream impacts).
  • Drive process improvements, strengthen controls, and implement sustainable procedures to reduce operational risk.
  • Accounting standards & policy implementation
  • Assist with adoption of new US GAAP accounting standards and evolving regulatory requirements; assess impacts and support implementation and reporting updates.
  • Stakeholder management & escalation
  • Build strong working relationships across Card leadership, Finance, PMs, and control partners.
  • Proactively and constructively escalate issues, and present complex topics clearly and concisely to management.
  • People development
  • Coach and support onboarding for new joiners and junior team members; contribute to a strong team culture and knowledge-sharing.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required).
  • Experience: 8–10 years in an accounting/controllership environment (internal or external).
  • Preferred certifications: CA / CPA / MBA (Finance).
  • Domain preference: Prior experience in Controllers within Retail Banking/Card (preferred).

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of US GAAP (preferred).
  • Strong analytical capability including variance analysis and ability to synthesize large datasets into clear messaging for leadership.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and attention to detail; able to operate with appropriate governance and controls mindset.
  • Ability to learn quickly, structure an approach, and execute to deliver results in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong project execution skills; ability to drive deliverables across stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management / mentoring capability.

Systems / Tools (Preferred)

  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with SAP and Essbase (preferred).

Work Schedule

  • Primary shift: 2:00 PM – 11:00 PM, with extension during critical business periods (e.g., month-end, quarter-end, key regulatory deadlines).
