About The Role

The Position The Senior Director, Technology Operations, will lead the central technology operations function, responsible for and acting as a critical service provider and partner to Seequent’s product engineering teams. The incumbent will be responsible for building and operating the shared infrastructure, platforms, build and deployment systems, and operational capabilities that enable Seequent product teams to build, run, and scale products reliably and securely. The Senior Director, Technology Operations will work in close partnership with product engineering leaders to ensure services and operational practices support performance, resilience, and compliance requirements. The mission is to deliver secure, resilient, and scalable technology operations capabilities that enable reliable software delivery and strong operational performance across Seequent’s products and services. This is a highly influential leadership role within Technology which combines strong technical judgment with pragmatic execution, builds alignment across teams, and drives secure, reliable, and efficient operation of shared infrastructure and software delivery services across Seequent. The role is expected to provide leadership across shared infrastructure, build and deployment systems, application security, and operational tooling In this role, you will have the opportunity to: •Own the Technology Operations roadmap, balancing reliability, security, resilience, and cost outcomes, and aligning priorities with Product and Engineering leadership. •Build and operate shared platform capabilities (including cloud foundations, CI/CD, developer tooling, runtime platforms, observability, high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, and AI/ML development environments) that improve time-to-market and operational excellence. •Establish and oversee the application security (AppSec) programme across Seequent’s products, services, and shared platforms, including secure development practices, threat modelling, static and dynamic testing, software composition analysis, and partnership with engineering teams to remediate vulnerabilities. •Direct the evolution and secure operation of build and deployment systems, embedding appropriate security, quality, and control checks into CI/CD pipelines to enable fast, reliable, and safe software delivery. •Establish platform reliability and performance targets (SLOs/SLAs where appropriate), define operational readiness expectations, and drive continuous improvement using data and post-incident learning. •Own the security and operational readiness of production and build infrastructure, including monitoring, logging, alerting, access controls, and incident preparedness, to ensure services are resilient, secure, and ready to scale. •Lead coordinated response and recovery for significant platform, security, and availability incidents within the scope of shared technology services, including post-incident reviews, lessons learned, and preventative improvement actions. •Own and execute security-by-design principles and vulnerability management for platform and Technology Operations-managed assets. Act as the primary engineering partner with the core Information Security function by executing infrastructure security controls and remediation efforts, while aligning with overarching company security policies and compliance standards. •Ensure operational practices support relevant security, privacy, and assurance requirements. Act as the primary technical partner to Security, Legal, and customer-facing teams for external audits, evidence gathering, and customer due-diligence inquiries. •Ensure our AppSec practices and cloud operations are consistent and complaint with the direction and oversight given to us by our parent company Bentley Systems Inc. •Manage the collection of SaaS services and tooling used by Seequent to operate and be productive, including AI SDLC tooling, issue management, version control, collaboration and other essential services. •Exercise rigorous financial stewardship by closely budgeting, forecasting, and managing costs associated with cloud vendors and internal systems. Drive FinOps and cost-optimization practices to ensure resources are managed prudently across the company. •Lead and grow a high-performing technology operations organisation, driving strategic organisational design, hiring, coaching, performance management, and effective collaboration across time zones. •Measure and communicate operational impact using agreed metrics (e.g., availability, latency, deployment frequency, change failure rate, MTTR, security posture, and cost efficiency), and use insights to guide prioritisation. To be successful in this role, you should have: •Minimum 10 years of experience in software engineering leadership roles, ideally leading infrastructure, SRE, platform operations, or application security teams within a global, product-led organisation. •Tertiary level qualification in Software Engineering or related scientific disciplines. In addition, the role requires the following attributes: •Demonstrated experience building and operating shared technology platforms such as cloud foundations, runtime platforms, CI/CD, observability, and engineering tooling, including driving FinOps and cost-optimisation initiatives in complex product environments. •Deep practical expertise in secure platform engineering and DevSecOps, with a philosophy of paved roads with guardrails making it easy for teams to leverage infrastructure-as-code, secure software development practices, application security testing (SAST/DAST), and modern vulnerability management across the software delivery lifecycle. •Experience in highly regulated or compliant environments, with a proven track record of supporting formal security, privacy, and assurance requirements (e.g., control implementation, evidence-based compliance, and external audits). •Strong understanding of observability and reliability engineering, including defining SLOs/SLAs, managing incident response, and using data to drive operational improvements and system resilience. •Executive-level stakeholder management, with the ability to influence and align senior leaders across Engineering, Product, and Security. Comfortable driving complex technical and operational decisions to closure. •Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, and establishing crisp documentation and standards. •Exceptional people leadership and organisational design capabilities, with experience structuring teams, developing talent, and building inclusive, high-performing engineering organisations across multiple global time zones. Additional Information This is an office-based role and is required to be in the Seequent office 3 days a week. Tier 3, after hours support may be required on occasion. Seequent is a global company, and flexibility in working hours may be required to accommodate work across different time zones. Direct reports This role is responsible for leading a team of professionals, managers, and/or senior managers. This may include, and not limited to, Leads, Principals, Managers, and Senior Managers and Directors. The role will also require working closely with cross-functional teams to guide and influence development outcomes.
