About The Role

About the Role

The role will support the effective management of Treasury PAPSS Settlement operations , covering settlement processing, participant account management, liquidity monitoring, cash management and foreign exchange activities.

Working closely with the Manager, Treasury PAPSS Settlements , the role holder will support the day-to-day administration of the PAPSS settlement framework, ensuring accurate processing, effective controls and timely management of participant settlement activities.

Key Responsibilities

Treasury PAPSS Settlement Management

  • Support the initiation of approved overdraft facilities across PAPSS and process them in the Core Banking System.
  • Perform daily administration and maintenance of bank accounts and banking structures within the PAPSS system.
  • Support intra-day and end-of-day settlement processes.
  • Assist with the continuous improvement of PAPSS settlement processes, frameworks and settlement structures.
  • Support the identification, analysis and reporting of short-term liquidity and funding requirements under the PAPSS settlement system.
  • Assist with the day-to-day management and maintenance of the PAPSS overdraft and surplus portfolio.
  • Liaise with the Bank’s internal Legal team on loan documentation.
  • Support the development and enhancement of Treasury PAPSS settlement control systems.
  • Assist the wider Treasury PAPSS team with payment processing, overdraft requests and other settlement-related activities.

Client Relationship Management

  • Maintain participants’ settlement accounts and monitor and reconcile collections and payments.
  • Support communication with PAPSS participants on settlement-related matters.
  • Maintain bank mandates for PAPSS members and respond to participant queries.

Cash Management

  • Support day-to-day cash control, monitor balances and prepare reports on the position and performance of PAPSS members.
  • Assist with SWIFT-related activities associated with PAPSS settlements.

Foreign Exchange

  • Liaise with trading partners, including the Afreximbank Treasury team, on foreign exchange monitoring and trading opportunities.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by Senior Management from time to time.

About You

You will bring

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working in a treasury settlement function within a corporate institution, preferably within the financial services industry.
  • A first degree in a relevant discipline such as Accounting, Financial Management, Economics, a numerical discipline or a related field , together with a postgraduate degree in a relevant field. A recognised professional certification may be accepted in lieu of a postgraduate degree.
  • A recognised professional qualification in Treasury Settlements will be a strong added advantage.
  • Good grounding in financial systems, database methodologies and financial modelling .
  • Experience working with Treasury Management Systems and/or inter-company netting processes .
  • Operational experience within a financial department with significant systems exposure.
  • Previous experience in an operations settlement environment , with a good understanding of treasury operations.
  • Knowledge of treasury, debt capital markets, financial instruments and structures .
  • Experience in people and project management .
  • Advanced Excel skills and computer literacy , including exposure to tools such as SQL and Crystal Reports.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English . Knowledge of the Bank’s other working languages — French, Arabic or Portuguese — will be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including the ability to organise and manage people from diverse cultural backgrounds to achieve objectives.

Compliance Responsibilities

  • Understand and adhere to the Bank’s AML, Regulatory and Conduct Compliance policies and procedures, including the Staff Handbook, Anti-Money Laundering, Counter Financing of Terrorism and Counter Proliferation Financing requirements, Conflicts of Interest policies, Anti-Bribery & Corruption requirements and Insider Trading Guidelines.
  • Report suspicious or non-compliant activities involving the Bank’s staff or customers to the Compliance Department.
  • Complete the required Annual Compliance Training and Assessment.
  • Maintain an understanding of the assigned customer portfolio, their businesses and related parties, and proactively inform the Compliance team of relevant changes as part of ongoing monitoring.
  • Obtain required Compliance and KYC documentation through effective communication with relevant internal and external parties.
  • Work with the Compliance team to ensure the Bank’s products comply with relevant country legislation and that appropriate due diligence is conducted to mitigate financial crime risks.
