Bakers Assistant

The Baker’s Assistant supports the baker and bakery team with the preparation, production, baking, decorating, packaging, and presentation of baked goods. The role involves preparing ingredients, maintaining a clean and organised work area, assisting with equipment and baking processes, and ensuring that products meet the required quality and hygiene standards.

Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.

Previous experience in a bakery, kitchen, food-production environment, or similar role is advantageous.

Basic knowledge of baking ingredients, preparation methods, and food-handling procedures.

Good understanding of hygiene, cleanliness, and food-safety practices.

Ability to follow recipes, instructions, and production schedules accurately.

Good physical stamina and ability to stand for extended periods.

Ability to lift and move ingredients, trays, and bakery equipment safely.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Reliable, punctual, hardworking, and willing to learn.

Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and public holidays where required.

The Baker’s Assistant works closely with the baker to ensure the smooth and efficient daily operation of the bakery. Duties may include measuring and weighing ingredients, preparing doughs and mixtures, assisting with baking and decorating products, loading and unloading ovens, cooling and packaging finished products, and preparing orders for customers.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for cleaning and sanitising workstations, utensils, baking equipment, and storage areas. They must follow all food-safety and occupational-health-and-safety procedures and ensure that ingredients are stored correctly.

The role requires attention to detail, consistency, good time management, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The Baker’s Assistant should demonstrate a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to producing high-quality baked products while maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
