About The Role

The Position The Senior Director, Technology Strategy, will lead the central technology strategy function responsible for shaping the shared technical direction that enables Seequent product teams to build, scale, and evolve products effectively. The incumbent will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Security, Data, and Architecture leaders to ensure strategic technology choices, standards, and enabling services support customer outcomes, delivery effectiveness, and long-term scalability. The mission is to accelerate product innovation and delivery by defining and advancing scalable, secure, and high-value technology strategy across software architecture, high-performance computing, platform data strategy, and AI services. The Senior Director, Technology Strategy will lead the central centre of excellence for software architecture, high-performance computing, AI services and platform data strategy and will translate strategic priorities into clear technical standards, reference architectures, shared capabilities, and governance mechanisms that help product teams deliver with confidence, consistency, and pace. You will also lead the development and adoption of machine learning and generative AI capabilities across Seequent products and services, including defining the AI services roadmap, establishing shared platforms and reusable components, setting standards and governance for responsible use, and enabling product teams to deliver measurable customer value at scale. This is a highly influential leadership role within Technology. It will suit an experienced technology leader who can connect long-term strategy to practical execution, build alignment across senior stakeholders, create clear standards and shared direction, and work alongside Technology Operations leadership to ensure Seequent has both strong strategic foundations and effective operational delivery. In this role, you will have the opportunity to: • Drive the development and governance of the Technology Strategy roadmap, in alignment with the overall technology vision set by the CTO and the investment priorities managed by the SVP, Technology. Ensure alignment with the long-term technology direction with company objectives, product strategy, engineering priorities, and delivery capacity. • Lead software architecture, high-performance computing, and platform data strategy to provide scalable, secure, and performant foundations for product and platform delivery, including defining, socialising, and enforcing mandatory standards. • Translate strategic priorities into executable plans by establishing reference architectures, investment themes, reusable patterns, governance mechanisms, and measures of success across the portfolio. • Lead the technical implementation and adoption of machine learning and generative AI capabilities across Seequent products and services, including defining the AI services roadmap, establishing shared platforms and reusable components, setting standards and governance for responsible use, and enabling product teams to deliver measurable customer value at scale. • Establish and maintain clear technology standards, architecture guardrails, and exception management processes that improve consistency, reduce duplication, and support sustainable product delivery. • Ensure our technology strategy, architecture, data strategy and AI practices are consistent and compliant with the direction and oversight given to us by our parent company Bentley Systems Inc. • Partner with Product, Engineering, Security, Data, and Technology Operations leaders to ensure strategic technology choices, shared capabilities, and operating priorities are aligned and mutually reinforcing. • Create and maintain reference implementations, templates, and reusable components that accelerate delivery and raise the baseline for quality, security, performance, and maintainability. • Drive adoption of strategic technology direction through enablement, including documentation, internal training, technical forums, and a clear engagement model with product teams. • Lead and grow a high-performing technology strategy organisation through organisational design, hiring, coaching, performance management, and effective collaboration across time zones. • Measure and communicate strategic impact using agreed metrics such as standards adoption, platform leverage, delivery acceleration, architectural health, and investment effectiveness, and use those insights to guide prioritisation To be successful in this role, you should have: • Minimum 10 years of experience in software engineering leadership roles, ideally leading architecture, platform strategy, shared services, or central engineering enablement functions within a global product-led organisation. • Tertiary level qualification in Software Engineering or related scientific disciplines. In addition, the role requires the following attributes: • Strong software architecture capability, with proven success in defining technical standards, reference architectures, governance models that are widely adopted and valued by technical teams, not just enforced. Demonstrated experience shaping and executing technology strategy across areas such as cloud architecture, high-performance computing, platform data strategy, shared technical services, or enterprise-wide engineering capabilities. • Strong understanding of how shared technology capabilities, governance, and standards enable scalable product delivery, architectural consistency, and long-term technical sustainability. • Deep understanding of modern data platforms and high-performance computing concepts, and of how they support differentiated product capability and scalable delivery. • Practical experience delivering machine learning and generative AI capabilities in production, including shared-service approaches, responsible AI governance, and adoption enablement. • Executive-level stakeholder management, with the ability to influence and align senior leaders across Engineering, Product, Security, Data, and Technology Operations. • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences and to establish crisp documentation and standards. • Exceptional people leadership and organisational design capability, with experience structuring teams, developing talent, and building inclusive, high-performing organisations across multiple global time zones. Additional Information This is an office-based role and is required to be in the Seequent office 3 days a week. Tier 3, after hours support may be required on occasion. Seequent is a global company, and flexibility in working hours may be required to accommodate work across different time zones. Direct reports This role is responsible for leading a team of professionals, managers, and/or senior managers. This may include, and not limited to, Leads, Principals, Managers, and Senior Managers and Directors. The role will also require working closely with cross-functional teams to guide and influence development outcomes.
