About The Role

Position Reports to: Ops Manager: Regional Physical Security Division: Taxpayer Engagement Location: Brooklyn, Landbank Office Advert Closing Date: 18 September 2026 About the Position SARS is looking for a dedicated, hardworking, self-driven and technically competent individual to support the installation, maintenance, repair and operational reliability of electronic security systems across SARS facilities. The successful incumbent must have practical experience in access control, CCTV/video surveillance and alarm systems, including the ability to conduct fault-finding, preventative maintenance, minor installations, system testing, configuration support, vendor coordination and technical reporting. The role requires sound technical judgement, attention to detail, adherence to safety and security procedures, and the ability to work independently under operational pressure while maintaining professional service delivery to internal stakeholders. Job Purpose SARS seeks to appoint a Team Member: Technical Security to install, maintain, repair, test and support electronic security systems in line with SARS technical standards, operational requirements and approved security risk mitigation measures. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting access control, CCTV/video surveillance, alarm and related low-voltage security infrastructure, including both existing SARS systems and future modernised platforms. This includes preventative and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, system wiring, device replacement, basic network-related troubleshooting, quality assurance of vendor work, completion of job cards and technical reports, and the escalation of unresolved system failures that may affect site security or operational continuity. Education and Experience Minimum Qualification & Experience Required Higher Certificate (NQF 5) in Information Technology, Electronic Security Systems, Security Technology, Security Risk Management or a related technical/security discipline AND 2 years’ practical experience in the installation, maintenance, fault-finding or support of electronic security systems, including access control, CCTV/video surveillance and alarm systems, with a valid driver’s licence. #Alternatively Higher Certificate (NQF 4) in Information Technology, Electronic Security Systems, Security Technology, Security Risk Management or a related technical/security discipline AND 3 years’ practical experience in the installation, maintenance, fault-finding or support of electronic security systems, including access control, CCTV/video surveillance and alarm systems, with a valid driver’s licence. Minimum Functional Requirements Industry-Specific Technical Requirements Practical experience in installation, configuration, commissioning, preventative maintenance and fault-finding of access control, CCTV/video surveillance and intrusion alarm systems. Ability to work with low-voltage security wiring, power supplies, backup power, door hardware, magnetic locks, readers, controllers, alarm panels, detectors, cameras, DVR/NVR equipment and related field devices. Basic understanding of IP-based security systems, including TCP/IP networking, PoE, switches, IP addressing, remote connectivity and the integration of CCTV, access control and alarm platforms. Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, site layouts, system drawings and equipment manuals, and to complete job cards, maintenance reports and asset-related documentation accurately. Experience with Softcon Access Control, Adpro and TeleEye CCTV, and CellSecure alarm systems will be advantageous. Experience or product training on Milestone VMS, Hikvision IP cameras, Impro access control and Ajax alarm systems will be advantageous in support of the SARS security systems modernisation programme. Identify and resolve queries and problems timeously, apply known solutions in line with guidelines provided and escalate unresolved problems. Effectively utilise resources allocated to the job in order to perform contracted work outputs and report on and escalate any shortfalls. Planning of preventative and reactive maintenance of electronic security equipment and systems. Conduct security equipment maintenance, systems wiring and installation of electronic security systems and equipment as per SARS standard. Conduct quality assurance inspections in respect of new project installations. Oversee the maintenance of workshop, vehicles, tools and safety equipment. Prepare and submit reports and statistics in respect of equipment faults concluded to be captured on the Physical Security Dashboard. Identify and resolve complex queries and problems timeously, apply known solutions in line with provided guidelines and escalate unresolved problems. Mentor student graduates and or interns to ensure their work comply to SARS standards. Make access arrangements for service providers within the region in line with the regional work plan. Ensure that tools of trade are serviced and maintained as per safe operational standard. Conduct repairs and maintenance on all security systems. Install technical security equipment and systems as per SARS standards. Ensure availability of spares and consumables for the area of responsibility. Conduct quality assurance on minor installations and maintenance done by vendors. Comply with legislation, policies and standard operating procedures in area of responsibility. Comply with safety regulations, policies and procedure to prevent injuries on the job. Resolve queries in line with guidelines and escalate unresolved queries. Ensure that asset documentation is completed accurately and submitted to the relevant asset management team. Verify that Technical Security assets correspond with the FAR. Ensure allocated work vehicles are kept in a safe, operating, clean condition and serviced timeously. Prepare and submit reports and statistics in respect of equipment, spares, consumables and installation.
