Controls Analyst (1st Line of Defense Risk Management)

About The Role
Join FTSE Russell, a leading global provider of benchmarks, analytics, and data solutions. As a Controls Analyst, you will support the operation and enhancement of the first-line Controls Framework and Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) program. You will work closely with various stakeholders to maintain high-quality control records, track assessment activity, and support reliable management information. This role provides an excellent opportunity to build experience in operational risk, controls, governance, and management information within a regulated financial services environment.
- Support the day-to-day maintenance of the central controls inventory and associated control records, ensuring controls are recorded accurately and consistently.
- Coordinate RCSA schedules, assessment timelines, workshop logistics and stakeholder follow-ups, and track completion of risk and control assessments.
- Produce regular controls and RCSA reporting, including status updates, control inventory metrics, data quality indicators, RCSA completion tracking and remediation progress.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to maintain trackers, analyse data and support reporting outputs
- Good analytical skills, with the ability to review, organise and interpret structured information
- Strong attention to detail and a clear focus on data quality, accuracy and completeness
- Comfortable working with structured processes, governance routines, controls data and documentation standards
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate issues, risks or uncertainties
- Proactive mindset, with the ability to identify gaps, ask questions and support resolution of issues
- Excellent organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, actions and stakeholder follow-ups
- Experience working in a risk, controls, governance, operational or reporting environment
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and delivery discipline
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to summarise information accurately and professionally
- Experience with MetricStream or similar GRC, workflow, risk, control or governance tools
- Understanding of risk and control concepts, including control objectives, ownership, frequency, evidence, design effectiveness and operating effectiveness
- Experience supporting governance forums, including meeting packs, action logs and committee reporting
- Experience supporting controls inventory management, RCSA activity, reporting or management information production
- Experience within financial services, market infrastructure, benchmark administration, index, data or analytics environments
- Awareness of regulated environments and the importance of clear evidence, audit trails and defensible documentation
- Familiarity with issue management, incident management, audit findings or remediation tracking
- Interest in building a career in operational risk, controls, governance, RCSA or first-line risk management
