About The Role

Wood is recruiting a Senior Piping & Mechanical Designer to join its Oil & Gas business in the Washington, WV area. The selected candidate will ensure that assigned project goals and objectives are achieved. Applicants must be authorized to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Wood, now or in the future. Local or regional area candidates strongly preferred, as no per diem or relocation are available for this role. No outside agencies.

As a Senior Piping & Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for driving the design work supporting facility-based design projects in active chemical manufacturing plants as part of the site’s capital project’s group.

  • Read and fully understand P&ID’s and other documents which describe the scope of work to be done.
  • Be able to read and understand fully the plant’s engineering specifications, standards, guidelines, and other technical documents related to your discipline.
  • Be familiar with industry codes such as ASME, API, and others which relate to piping and mechanical design in industrial environments.
  • Interface with engineers, operators, maintenance, environmental, and other personnel at the plant site to understand the design considerations for the site.
  • Guide more junior piping and mechanical designers in their design work.
  • Provide piping & mechanical design for capital and service projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Guide site employees through reviews of piping and mechanical designs to get their input prior to issuing these for construction.
  • Issue construction complete construction packages.
  • Field as-built, measurement, and design as project requires.
  • Assist with material take-offs and construction estimating.

Expected

  • 15 to 20 years’ industrial experience working in the design field, preferably in that of the chemical manufacturing industry.
  • Willing and capable of operating in a self-directed manner to drive your design process forward.
  • Able to understand and act when your part of the project hits a roadblock.
  • Highly experienced in design of piping & mechanical systems as currently used in chemical manufacturing facilities.
  • Outdoor design experience, able to wear required PPE and drive safely to jobsite for field measurement/as-built drawings.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good negotiation skills A proactive approach to solving problems and getting the job done.
  • Self-motivated/Self-directed.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft, Word, Excel and Outlook.
