Senior Financial Accountant - 12 months fixed term

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join our Trade Finance team on a 12-month parental leave contract.

Reporting to the Finance Manager - Trade, you will play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong financial controls and supporting commercial decision-making across one of Bapcor's largest and most important business segments.

This position also provides leadership and development support to a Financial Accountant while partnering closely with stakeholders across Finance, Operations, Merchandise and Group functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead month-end accounting activities, including journal preparation, financial reporting and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Review monthly financial performance for the Trade segment and stores P&Ls, investigate variances against Budget/Forecast and Prior Year and provide meaningful commentary and insights.
  • Coordinate half-year and year-end audit activities, including preparation of supporting documentation and management of auditor queries.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, Group policies, financial controls and reporting requirements.
  • Drive improvements in financial processes, reporting quality, automation and control effectiveness.
  • Provide accounting advice, financial analysis and support to business stakeholders.
  • Lead, coach and develop a Financial Accountant, ensuring high-quality outputs and effective succession planning.

  • You are a technically strong accounting professional with a passion for continuous improvement and business partnering.

You will bring

  • CA or CPA qualification.
  • Degree qualification in Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in financial accounting, reporting and month-end processes.
  • Strong experience with balance sheet reconciliations, audit support and financial controls.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large ERP and reporting systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Experience reviewing or supervising the work of other finance team members.
  • A proactive mindset with a focus on accuracy, continuous improvement and delivering outcomes.
  • Experience working in a deadline-driven environment, consistently delivering accurate and timely financial outcomes.
