About The Role

Join Telnyx as a Senior Backend Engineer in our WebRTC squad. You'll be responsible for building, operating, and evolving the backend services behind our real-time communications and Voice SDK platform. This is a systems-focused role for someone who enjoys working on distributed production services and solving reliability problems. You'll collaborate closely with mobile, JavaScript, infrastructure, and other engineering teams to improve end-to-end reliability and help shape the architecture and technical direction of our backend systems.

  • Design, build, maintain, and operate backend services supporting WebRTC and Voice SDK products.
  • Take ownership of backend systems including Voice SDK proxy services, authentication and token services, push notification services, RTC DNS, and diagnostic logging.
  • Collaborate closely with mobile, JavaScript, infrastructure, and other engineering teams to improve end-to-end reliability.
  • A strong observability mindset, including experience with logging, metrics, dashboards, alerting, and root-cause analysis
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers working across different parts of the stack
  • Experience with Kubernetes, containers, CI/CD, and modern production infrastructure
  • Experience owning services throughout their lifecycle, including design, development, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and scaling
  • Strong professional experience building and operating backend systems in production
  • Experience with Elixir or Erlang, or strong backend engineering experience with the ability and willingness to ramp up quickly in Elixir
  • Good understanding of networking fundamentals and the ability to troubleshoot issues across software, networking, and infrastructure boundaries
  • Strong experience working with distributed systems and service-oriented architectures
  • Experience building or operating real-time, low-latency, or connection-oriented systems
  • Strong understanding of backend fundamentals such as authentication, service communication, session lifecycle, reliability, and failure recovery
  • Experience building backend services that support mobile or JavaScript SDKs
  • Experience building internal diagnostic, observability, or troubleshooting tools
  • Experience with DNS, edge routing, service discovery, or globally distributed systems
  • Experience working with push notification infrastructure such as APNs or FCM
  • Experience with WebSockets or other persistent connection technologies
  • Experience with WebRTC, VoIP, voice/video communications, or other real-time communication systems
