Vice President of Applications (Information Technology) - ONSITE

The Vice President of Applications is a senior technology and transformation leader responsible for the strategy, delivery, optimization, and support of enterprise clinical and revenue cycle applications across the health system. This role provides executive oversight for the electronic health record platform, with a required depth of experience in Epic/Cerner or Cerner (Oracle Health), as well as adjacent clinical, operational, and revenue cycle systems that enable safe, efficient, integrated, and digitally enabled care delivery.

The VP will serve as a key partner to clinical, operational, financial, and technology leaders to transform workflows, improve clinician and patient experience, strengthen revenue cycle performance, and accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence, automation, and data-driven capabilities. This leader will be accountable for aligning application strategy with enterprise priorities, ensuring reliable service delivery, and advancing measurable outcomes across quality, access, productivity, financial performance, and user satisfaction.

Reporting Relationship and Key Partnerships

This position typically reports to the Chief Digital and Information Officer, Chief Information Officer, or equivalent senior executive. The role partners closely with the Chief Medical Information Officer, Chief Nursing Informatics Officer, Chief Financial Officer, revenue cycle leadership, operational executives, compliance, information security, data and analytics, enterprise project management, and vendor partners.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the enterprise applications portfolio supporting clinical care, revenue cycle, patient access, pharmacy, laboratory, imaging, interoperability, and other health system operations.

Provide executive oversight for Epic/Cerner strategy, governance, implementation, optimization, release management, upgrades, support, and adoption across clinical and revenue cycle domains.

Develop and execute a multiyear applications roadmap aligned with health system strategy, clinical transformation, financial stewardship, regulatory priorities, and digital innovation goals.

Partner with clinical, operational, and financial leaders to redesign workflows that reduce friction, improve safety and quality, enhance provider and caregiver experience, and support standardized, evidence-based care.

Advance revenue cycle transformation by optimizing Epic/Cerner and related platforms to improve registration, authorization, coding, charge capture, billing, denial prevention, collections, and overall financial performance.

Identify, prioritize, and deliver AI, automation, and intelligent workflow solutions that improve productivity, reduce manual work, strengthen decision support, and enable scalable operations.

Establish strong application governance, prioritization, and portfolio management practices that balance enterprise needs, operational demand, resource capacity, cybersecurity, compliance, and return on investment.

Ensure high-quality application service delivery, including incident management, problem resolution, service level performance, user support, change management, release readiness, and communication.

Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing applications organization with strong capabilities in Epic/Cerner, clinical informatics, revenue cycle systems, project delivery, vendor management, business analysis, testing, training, and customer service.

Collaborate with data, analytics, and AI leaders to embed actionable insights, predictive models, automation, and responsible AI practices into clinical and operational workflows.

Oversee vendor relationships, contract performance, platform roadmaps, and partner accountability for Epic/Cerner and other strategic application partners.

Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations, privacy and security requirements, documentation standards, change control processes, and audit expectations.

Measure and communicate outcomes using clear performance indicators tied to clinical effectiveness, revenue cycle value, application reliability, adoption, optimization, and user satisfaction.

Transformation Focus

This leader will be expected to move beyond traditional application support and serve as an enterprise transformation partner. The VP will help the organization use Epic/Cerner, AI, automation, analytics, and workflow redesign to simplify care delivery, reduce administrative burden, improve throughput, strengthen access, enhance documentation quality, and optimize revenue cycle performance. The role requires the ability to translate strategic priorities into executable technology roadmaps and measurable operational outcomes.

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in information technology, healthcare administration, business administration, clinical discipline, or related field.

Required Experience / Skills: 10 years of progressive healthcare information technology leadership experience, including significant experience leading clinical applications in a hospital, integrated delivery network, academic medical center, or large health system environment. Experience with Epic/Cerner/Cerner, including leadership responsibility for Epic/Cerner/Cerner implementation, optimization, upgrades, application support, governance, or enterprise roadmap planning. Demonstrated experience supporting or transforming clinical workflows, revenue cycle operations, patient access, and interdisciplinary care delivery through technology-enabled change. Proven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary teams and manage complex portfolios of applications, projects, vendors, budgets, and operational priorities. Experience applying AI, automation, analytics, or intelligent workflow capabilities to improve healthcare operations, clinical effectiveness, or administrative productivity. Strong understanding of healthcare operations, clinical informatics, revenue cycle processes, interoperability, regulatory requirements, privacy, security, and enterprise change management. Demonstrated ability to influence senior executives, clinicians, operational leaders, and technology teams through clear communication, collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and disciplined execution.

Salary Range: $252,904 - $404,647
