About The Role
About the role
The Senior Property Underwriter sits within our VIC Property team and is responsible for underwriting new and renewal Property accounts in line with Chubb guidelines, while also developing business across an allocated panel of corporate brokers within delegated authority.
This role requires you to build and maintain strong broker relationships, pursue target accounts with tenacity, and develop business plans that maximise opportunities across your panel. You’ll also coach and support less experienced colleagues, sharing technical and soft skills, and contribute to a collaborative team environment while making sound decisions independently and with managers where needed.
In this role, you will
- Achieve personal premium budget targets while managing a portfolio of new and renewal Property business across an assigned corporate broker panel
- Underwrite MD/BI portfolios in line with Chubb’s underwriting strategy, assessing new risks, renewals and specialist classes, and presenting complex accounts for approval where required
- Balance business development with account management across a portfolio that includes both multinational and domestic clients, typically ranging from $25,000 to $1,000,000
- Provide technical underwriting and marketing support, including risk referrals, portfolio management, pricing input and guidance on renewal and new business strategy
- Build trusted long-term relationships with key producers and insureds, while delivering product and capability presentations, preparing quotations and negotiating outcomes
- Share market insight and competitor knowledge to identify growth opportunities and support the wider branch, zone or national team
- Coach, train and guide less experienced staff, helping build technical capability and confidence across the team
What you’ll bring to the role
- 5+ years’ experience in Property or Package Underwriting and Development within an insurance company, with strong technical knowledge and the ability to develop creative solutions to complex underwriting situations
- Experience with advanced pricing techniques, account servicing costs, marketing plans, broker appointments and tailoring coverage to suit client needs
- Strong collaboration, communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively across Claims, Loss Control and other internal teams
- Experience interpreting claims information, deploying loss control resources and supporting the development of entry-level underwriters and new experienced hires
