Robotics Test Engineer
ANYbotics · Zurich, Switzerland
About The Role
ANYbotics is a fast-growing tech company dedicated to shaping the future of mobile robotics across multiple industries. Join our highly talented and motivated team of more than 200 people and work on cutting-edge robot technology.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Robotics Test Engineer to join our Motion Intelligence team. You will bring rigour and structure to how we test, verify and define the operational limits of our locomotion system, enabling the wider team to develop and release new capabilities with confidence.
This role is about closing the gap between “the tests pass” and “the robot works reliably in the field”. You will build trustworthy system-level test coverage across the locomotion, software and mechatronics stack, while helping define the Operational Design Domain that determines where and how our robots are validated to operate.
We value engineers who take a whole-system view, take pride in clean and maintainable code, and can bring clarity to ambiguous verification challenges. You should be excited to work hands-on with physical robots, translate real-world field behaviour into reproducible tests and simulation scenarios, and build test infrastructure that the team can rely on for years.
At ANYbotics, we develop tailored software solutions that enable our legged robots to execute inspection and maintenance tasks with precision and consistency. This role sits at the intersection of systems engineering, test automation and real-world robotics. You will work across the full lifecycle, from defining operational limits and authoring system-level tests through to release readiness, certification testing and production deployments in demanding industrial environments.
The Market & Our Technology
ANYbotics transforms industrial plants in the energy, process, and utility sector by introducing robotics to a wide range of novel applications that so far were beyond reach. Our customers are large asset operators and industrial service providers pioneering the use of robotics technology for inspection and maintenance. Our mobile robot ANYmal uses legs for extreme mobility in complex environments, camera- and LIDAR-based sensing for full autonomy and obstacle avoidance, and AI for high-quality and consistent inspection results. We develop numerous customised hardware systems, including the entire robotic platform, actuators, sensors, inspection payloads, charging systems, and all related ANYbotics electrical hardware.
Your Impact
-
Design, build and maintain system-level and integration tests for the Motion Intelligence stack, enabling reliable release, regression and certification testing
-
Write clean and maintainable test code, primarily in Python, and help evolve our system-test infrastructure, testbeds and internal testing facilities
-
Define and maintain the Operational Design Domain for locomotion, translating environments such as stairs, ramps, tight spaces, dust, snow and mud into reproducible laboratory and simulation scenarios
-
Own the field-to-lab-to-simulation loop by analysing locomotion failures, reproducing them internally and turning them into lasting regression coverage
-
Build test coverage across the software and mechatronic system, including drive behaviour, motion performance, middleware interfaces and new hardware or firmware configurations
-
Apply simulation and hardware-in-the-loop testing where they improve coverage, repeatability or development speed
-
Work closely with software, controls, hardware, systems and field engineering teams to raise the overall reliability and quality of the robot
Your Profile
- -
- Degree in robotics, mechatronics, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field
- -
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with robotic or complex mechatronic systems across testing, integration, controls, development or field deployment
- -
- A systems-oriented mindset, with the ability to understand overall requirements and constraints while investigating problems in detail
- -
- Strong software fundamentals and proficiency in Python for test automation, data analysis and tooling, with working knowledge of C++
- -
- Experience working with Linux and ROS or ROS2, together with an understanding of middleware and interfaces within complex robotic systems
- -
- Experience designing, automating or maintaining system-level, integration or hardware-software tests
- -
- Experience using robotic simulation tools such as Gazebo or Isaac Sim to reproduce behaviour and build test scenarios
- -
- A structured, methodical and rigorous approach, with clear written and verbal communication skills in English
Bonus Points
- -
- Field or deployment experience with robotic systems operating outside controlled laboratory environments
- -
- Experience working in industrial, energy, process or other safety-critical environments
- -
- Experience defining operational design domains, system limits, requirements or safety cases
- -
- Experience with continuous integration, hardware-in-the-loop testing, test automation frameworks or test-management tools such as Testmo
- -
- Familiarity with motors, drives, actuators, EtherCAT, embedded firmware, motion control or mechatronic verification
- -
- A track record of turning field failures into reproducible laboratory tests or simulation scenarios
