About The Role

The Assistant Director of Business Operations serves as a key strategic and operational leader for Facilities Services, with responsibility for overseeing financial planning, business operations, and administrative functions across a complex, multi-unit organization. This role has direct accountability for operating and capital budget management, financial performance, procurement strategy, and administrative operations supporting approximately 300 employees.

The Assistant Director partners with senior leadership to develop and implement financial strategies, optimize resource allocation, and support long-range planning initiatives. This position ensures alignment between financial management and operational execution, drives process improvements, and exercises independent judgment in financial and operational decision-making. The role also provides leadership and oversight of administrative and financial staff, ensuring efficient, compliant, and customer-focused operations.

  • Advanced knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial management principles
  • Ability to own and manage financial performance, including variance analysis and corrective action planning
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate financial data into strategic recommendations
  • Experience with financial and ERP systems (e.g., Banner, Oracle) and reporting tools
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial modeling
  • Strong organizational, project management, and process improvement skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and internal controls
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders and senior leadership
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making authority

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
  • 6–8+ years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, budgeting, accounting, or business operations
  • 3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience with direct or indirect staff oversight

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in higher education, facilities, or capital project environments
  • Working knowledge of WebTMA for work order tracking, asset management, and reporting
  • Experience with job cost accounting, capital project financial management, or multi-project portfolio oversight
  • Experience with procurement strategy, contract administration, and vendor management
  • Experience with reporting or visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau)
  • Demonstrated experience leading process improvements or system implementations
