Staff RN Service Line Coordinator - Cardiac/IR/Vascular OR

Schedule: Weekdays, 6:30A-3P, rotating call, 2 holidays per year - 40hrs

A Brief Overview

Performs a variety of clinical functions including leading and coordinating the daily operational activities of specialty service line(s). Initiates, supports, and enforces work efforts that maximize quality, safety, and service in the defined specialty service(s) in collaboration with Surgical Services leadership and physicians. Maintains availability and working status of specialty instruments and equipment. Provides direct patient care in the OR by demonstrating competence in providing age-appropriate care and service to patients.

Essential Functions

• Collaborates with physicians in the defined specialty service(s) to maximize quality, safety, and service:
• Actively communicates with physicians to plan for resource needs and utilization.
• Maintains accurate preference/procedure cards. • Maintains awareness of upcoming surgical cases and arranges adequate resources/resolves conflicts in advance of the surgery.
• Orders/assures adequate quantities of “specialty” supplies are available and does so in a cost-conscious manner.
• Identifies needs and coordinates activities to resolve issues or improve care of the patients within defined specialty service(s).
• Assists with the development of new and advanced skills required to support procedures within a specialty.
• Assists with the development of or expansion of programs within specialty.
• Functions as a resource to the multidisciplinary team.
• Accountable for results by holding self and others accountable to achieve results
• Maintains availability and working status of specialty service(s) instruments, equipment, and supplies.
• Monitors and assures that OR staff demonstrate proper care and handling of instruments including placement of instruments on case carts
• Ascertains that broken and/or missing instruments are promptly repaired or replaced.
• Collaborates with Sterile Processing and/or Purchasing to identify need for loaner items when necessary.
• Recommends ordering of new equipment/instrument/supplies as needed.
• Keeps staff aware of status of specialty equipment, instruments and/or supplies.
• Communicates closely with the Sterile Processing and Distribution Services on the quality, quantity, and functionality of instruments equipment, and/or supplies
• Provides direct patient care in the operating room.
• Assumes all principle duties and responsibilities of a Staff RN – Bedside
• Participates in regular, specialty and resource on-call coverage for the Operating Room.
• Precepts the precepting of new employees to the specialty service(s)
• Demonstrates proper use and care of equipment and supplies.
• Provides “hands-on” experience with all pieces of equipment and specialty instrumentation.
• Teaches and enforces department standards for performance, patient care, safety, and service.
• Informs other team members of orientee’s progress and goals when assigning them to work with an orientee.
• Directs the education programs for the Specialty Service(s):
• Works in collaboration with the educator to develop competency-based orientation for specialty service(s).
• Identifies the team and departmental education and training needs for the specialty service(s).
• Plans, teaches, or arranges for others to teach the education programs to meet the identified learning needs.
• Makes available pertinent reference and reading materials.
• Assists with updating policy/procedures as assigned by OR Leadership.
• Leadership and Development:
• Provide leadership, guidance, and support to team members by setting clear goals, providing regular feedback, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment. Ensure continuous development of team skills and capabilities through mentoring, coaching, and other development opportunities. • Demonstrates knowledge of department and hospital policy and procedures
• Resolves staff questions, problems, or concerns.
• Refers problems unable to handle to Supervisor and/or Clinical Manager(s).
• Role models outstanding patient care, customer service, teamwork, and professionalism at all times.
• Collaborates with Clinical Manager(s) & Supervisor(s) to ensure appropriate team assignments.
• Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
• Perform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section

Education Qualifications

• Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in nursing Required and
• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in nursing Preferred

Experience Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a clinical nurse Required and
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience Preferred

Skills and Abilities

• Must possess leadership skills in verbal/written communication and organizational management (time management, problem solving, conflict resolution, and knowledge of regulatory agency/HR standards).
• Must possess influential/motivational leadership skills that drive/develops staff performance.
• Ability to effectively demonstrate situational power, control, autonomy, and flexibility.
• Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritizing skills.

Licenses and Certifications

• RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the state of Nebraska Upon Hire Required and
• BLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association Upon Hire Required and
• PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 180 Days Required and
• CNOR - Certified Operating Room Nurse within 1 year Required
• Non-violent Intervention Preferred
