About The Role
Canea Shipping & Trading, an affiliate company of Seaborne Shipbrokers S.A., is a newly established shipping company focused on the safe, reliable, and efficient management of its fleet. As the company grows and develops its operations, we are building a strong and experienced team with a hands-on approach, high standards of operational excellence, and a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
We are looking for an experienced Accountant to join our team in Athens. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations of Canea Shipping & Trading, ensuring accurate and timely financial records and supporting the company’s financial reporting and closing processes.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily bookkeeping and accounting entries
- Prepare and process payments, bank transfers and bank reconciliations
- Monitor revenues, expenses, outstanding invoices, petty cash and corporate credit cards
- Review and process travel and employee expenses
- Prepare and review invoices and supporting accounting documentation
- Support monthly and annual closing procedures
- Prepare accounting analyses, reconciliations and supporting schedules for reporting purposes
- Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, banks and other external partners as required
- Support VAT, tax, audit and other statutory reporting requirements
- Maintain accurate accounting records and financial documentation
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of accounting procedures and internal controls
- Assist with ad hoc accounting and financial matters as required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related field
- Minimum 4 years of relevant accounting experience, within the Shipping industry
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, bookkeeping, reconciliations and closing procedures
- Experience with payments, banking transactions and audit support
- Very good command of English, both written and spoken
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel; familiarity with shipping accounting/ERP systems will be considered an asset
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
- Hands-on approach, ownership mindset and ability to manage multiple priorities with professionalism and confidentiality
