About The Role
Magnopus is looking for a Senior Technical Artist with deep Unreal Engine expertise to join our UK team as a freelancer on an exciting ongoing project.
Working closely with our creative and art teams, you'll help deliver high-quality real-time content in Unreal Engine, with a particular focus on performance optimisation, materials, content pipelines and technical art workflows. You'll play a key role in helping the team achieve the required visual quality while ensuring content meets demanding real-time performance targets.
This is a 3-month freelance opportunity.
What you'll do
- Help develop and optimise real-time environments and assets, from initial content through to polished, performant scenes.
- Work directly within Unreal Engine to provide technical support and guidance to the art team, helping troubleshoot and resolve content and performance challenges.
- Profile and optimise 3D content, materials and environments to meet required real-time performance metrics.
- Create, profile and optimise materials in Unreal Engine, balancing visual quality with real-time performance requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve and optimise existing art and content pipelines, helping the wider team work more efficiently and consistently.
- Build and work with Unreal's PCG graphs to support efficient content creation and procedural environment workflows.
What will help you succeed in this role
- Proven experience as a Senior 3D Technical Artist, with a strong track record working in Unreal Engine.
- Deep understanding of Unreal Engine material creation, profiling and optimisation.
- Strong knowledge of real-time 3D performance optimisation, including LODs, asset optimisation, draw calls, shader/material performance and profiling workflows.
- Experience working with PCG graphs and procedural content workflows in Unreal Engine.
- Professional experience delivering real-time content for games, immersive experiences, virtual production or similar projects.
- A strong artistic eye, with the ability to balance visual quality, composition and creative intent with technical and performance requirements.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work closely with an art team and provide practical technical guidance.
Even better if you also have
- Experience optimising large-scale environments or complex real-time scenes.
- Familiarity with standard DCC packages such as Maya, 3ds Max or Blender.
- Experience with Substance Painter, Substance Designer or Photoshop.
- Experience with Unreal Engine's Sequencer, cameras, lighting and environment workflows.
- Experience working with PCG at scale.
