PS Senior Superintendent Operations

About The Role
- Safety: Consistent application of Safety & Health principles in all discipline interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
- Performance and Delivery
Security Operations & Risk Management
- Lead and coordinate security operations to protect employees, assets, infrastructure, information, and business activities.
- Implement Protection Services standards, policies, procedures, and best practices across the operation.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate security risks, threats, and vulnerabilities through proactive planning and monitoring.
- Conduct and oversee investigations into security incidents and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
- Manage intelligence and information gathering processes to support operational decision-making and asset protection.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with operational management, law enforcement agencies, communities, and other stakeholders.
- Support the implementation of security technologies, contingency plans, and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen operational security.
Operational Leadership
- Plan, coordinate, and monitor the work, resources, priorities, and service delivery of the Protection Services team.
- Contribute to business plans, operational strategies, service level agreements, and improvement initiatives that support business objectives.
- Monitor security performance indicators and trends and recommend actions to improve operational effectiveness.
- Support SHEQ compliance, audits, inspections, and the implementation of required standards and procedures.
- Act in the Protection Services Manager role when required.
People Leadership & Employee Relations
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop employees to build a competent, engaged, and high-performing team.
- Create a safe, productive, and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Set clear performance expectations, allocate work effectively, and monitor performance against agreed objectives.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, training, succession planning, and employee development initiatives.
- Manage employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, and conflict resolution processes, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Governance, Reporting & Administration
- Ensure effective administration of security systems, access control processes, investigations, employee screening, and operational records.
- Maintain accurate reports, statistics, security records, and management information to support governance and decision-making.
- Manage incident reporting and ensure investigations are completed and appropriately documented.
- Support financial control, resource management, and implementation of new systems, technologies, and work practices within the operation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, company policies, and security standards.
- People & Teams

- Compliance
- Ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory, legislative and permitting requirements.
Prescribed
- Grade 12.
- National Advanced Certificate in Security Management or a related security, policing, risk management, or law enforcement qualification (RPL will be applied).
- Registered with PSIRA Grade A.
- Competency to handle and use a handgun, shotgun, and self-loading rifle for business purposes.
- PSIRA Armed Response qualification.
- PSIRA Bullion Cash-in-Transit qualification, where operationally required.
- Valid B/Code 08 driver’s licence
- Applicable SAPS firearm competency certification.
- Protection Services Induction.
Desirable
- Tactical firearms qualification.
Experience
- Minimum 6 years' experience in security, law enforcement, investigations, intelligence gathering, surveillance, or a related environment.
- At least 5 years' experience in security operations management.
- Experience managing security teams, contractors, and operational security programmes.
- Experience in a mining, industrial, or high-risk operational environment.
- Experience with CCTV surveillance, control room operations, and security systems as per operational requirements
Technical knowledge
Technical knowledge required for role
- Security operations, asset protection, loss prevention, and security risk management principles.
- Threat, risk, vulnerability, incident, and crisis management methodologies.
- Security investigations, intelligence gathering, surveillance, and incident management practices.
- Security legislation, company standards, VPSHR, Use of Force requirements, and Valterra Platinum Rules of Engagement.
- Emergency response, business continuity, and security governance requirements.
- Security technologies, access control systems, CCTV systems, and control room operations.
Technical skills
- Lead and coordinate security operations, investigations, and risk mitigation activities.
- Apply threat, risk, vulnerability, incident, and crisis management techniques.
- Use security systems, surveillance technologies, access control platforms, and Microsoft Office applications to support operations and reporting.
- Analyse information, identify trends, and develop practical security solutions and improvement initiatives.
- Present and manage evidence in disciplinary hearings and court proceedings.
- Communicate effectively and build productive relationships with stakeholders, law enforcement agencies, service providers, and communities.
Social process skills
Self-awareness, and of behaviours that successfully drive or hinder team performance and collaboration

Other requirements
- Medical certificate of fitness.
- No criminal record.
- Successfully pass polygraph assessments as required.
- There could be ad hoc requirements from time to time including need to travel.
