Job Summary
Observes cardiac monitors to identify abnormal heart rhythms under the supervision of a registered nurse. Performs duties in a centralized monitoring environment that monitors patients across multiple departments.
Essential Functions
- All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's purpose: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference.
- Observes cardiac monitors and reports any changes in cardiac rhythm per policy.
- Receives report from the previous shift and documents strips per policy.
- Responsible for the management and distribution of transmitter boxes. Ensures transmitter boxes are returned to the surveillance center in a timely manner after discontinuation of telemetry monitoring.
- Reports problems regarding poor transmission, etc. to the appropriate unit and personnel. Reports telemetry system failures to designated personnel and departments.
- Completes telemetry summary report per policy guidelines.
- Triages incoming phone calls, provides appropriate information in a calm and concise manner and logs phone calls.
- Maintains adequate supplies and keeps the monitoring areas and equipment clean and organized.
- Participates in training and the continuous development of new staff. Attends educational programs, in-services and meetings as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
- This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements
- Education - High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience - No previous experience required. Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
- After hire, requires attendance of formal arrhythmia training class and successful completion of the Prisma Health Arrhythmia exam with a minimum passing score within 2 attempts.
- Successful completion of the arrhythmia exam must be completed within 30 days of hire.
- Arrhythmia competencies must be maintained on an annual basis if selected into a monitor tech role.
