About The Role

The Technologist II - Pathology Sciences assists in the commissioning of the relevant sections. This involves the commissioning of equipment, IT systems, recruitment, on-boarding and training of staff, preparing policies and procedures in accordance with CAP and JCI. The incumbent performs pre-batching, pooling, and processing of human donor samples for PCR testing in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures. The incumbent is part of a team of Biomedical Scientists/Technologists delivering high quality services in their specialty and has operational oversight of a team within the department.

  • Organizes, supervises and participates in the work of the section. Works unsupervised, but under the direction of the Supervisor - Pathology Sciences.
  • Answers enquiries and communicates patient results to clinicians, surgeons and nursing staff both internally and external to Sidra.
  • Provides specialist technical advice on specimen handling to clinicians, surgeons and nursing staff.
  • Actively supervises other staffs within their section to ensure an efficient throughput of work as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Assists the Supervisor - Pathology Sciences in the implementation of management decisions affecting the sections, as documented above.
  • Maintains co-operation between the section and between disciplines by regular liaison with other section leads and senior staff. This includes attendance at staff meetings.
  • Leads by good example in order to motivate staff to create high quality work, interest and contribution.
  • Actively participates in the technical work of the section.
  • In liaison with the Supervisor - Pathology Sciences ensures adequate stocks of reagents and consumables are available for the efficient running of the service.
  • Uses LIS to generate workload statistics and run queries.
  • In liaison with Supervisor - Pathology Sciences, provides technical advice on, and assists in the selection of new equipment.
  • Performs all aspects of PCR pre-batching, pooling, processing, test result entry, equipment maintenance and sample management functions to ensure accuracy and appropriate product pooling is performed, completed, and reported in a timely manner.
  • Performs routine and non-routine analyses of DNA according to established testing methods and protocols in a high throughput environment.
  • Monitors and advises on the use of reagents and consumables in the section.
  • Takes responsibility for the maintenance and safe use of equipment within the section.
  • Reviews batching and pooling documents, quality control, and other reports for accuracy, completeness and compliance to requirements to ensure that quality standards are met.
  • Participates in operational excellence initiatives and projects to drive a culture of continuous improvement to achieve operational excellence.
  • Facilitates improvements to processes and methodologies where appropriate.
  • Assists in organization and scheduling of analytical activities to ensure service requests are accurately run within the allotted time and testing priorities are met.
  • Communicates with Lab Coordinator and stakeholders regarding identified laboratory processes or quality issues.
  • Utilizes laboratory data handling systems to document, communicate and archive results.
  • Monitors quality of critical testing equipment, performing calibrations, verifications and maintenance of systems as necessary.
  • Documents out-of-tolerance occurrences and takes corrective actions as per the laboratories quality management systems.
  • Networks with other technical experts to leverage problem solving and prevention expertise and where appropriate share technology.
  • Contributes to value creation by continuous improvement of procedures in the analytical work processes and related tools and performance metrics.
  • Ensures the integrity of analytical data and timely/accurate interpretation of results, updating the company databases.
  • Ensures work is performed to the highest standards of safety and quality and the working environment is clean and tidy.
  • Proactively develops and expand knowledge and experience of other analytical techniques.

  • QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS – REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

Education Bachelor’s degree in lab based Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biology or other biological science field.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience working with advanced analytical lab equipment (liquid handlers, automatic pipettes, plate readers)
  • Experience in LIS operations

Certification and Licensure • License in the country of origin or country of practice

  • Meets licensing requirements of the State of Qatar
