Job Scope

The Instrument Technician is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of all process instrumentation and measurement systems throughout the manufacturing facility. The technician serves as the technical expert for process control instrumentation, analytical equipment, and measurement devices, ensuring regulatory compliance and optimal process control. They act as the primary resource for instrumentation troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement of measurement systems, guaranteeing that all critical process parameters are accurately monitored and controlled to maintain product quality and operational efficiency.

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive calibration programs for equipment according to regulatory and quality standard s within your defined area. Examples include; process instrumentation, analytical equipment, utility equipment and measurement devices.
• Lead instrumentation commissioning activities, including loop checks, calibration verification, and functional testing during equipment start-up or restart projects. (Project timeline dependent)
• Execute scheduled calibration activities using precision test equipment and maintain complete documentation of calibration results, certificates, and measurement traceability records.
• Install, configure, and commission process control instruments including transmitters, analyzers, flow meters, pressure sensors, and temperature devices.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on instrumentation systems, troubleshooting complex issues using diagnostic equipment, multimeters, and calibration standards.
• Monitor and analyze instrumentation performance metrics, identifying calibration drift patterns, measurement deviations, and equipment issues to drive corrective actions and continuous improvement.
• Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for instrumentation failures, process measurement deviations, and control loop performance issues.
• Prepare, review, and approve documentation including (but not limited to) calibration procedures, instrument data sheets, loop diagrams, maintenance records, and deviation reports.
• Train and mentor manufacturing associates, technicians, and other support functions on proper instrument operation, calibration procedures, and safety protocols.
• Complete supplementary tasks as seen fit by management to effectively utilize time and resources for the benefit of the business.
• This role requires regular presence on the production floor.

Requirements

Educational background and previous experience required for the role

Qualifications and Experience

• Technical/industrial background in Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical, Control Systems, or related field.
• 3+ years previous experience from the manufacturing or processing industry (e.g., battery, pulp and paper, food, chemicals, microelectronics, oil & gas, pharmaceutical processing).
• Vocational education within Instrumentation Technology, Industrial/Electrical Gymnasium, or equivalent.
• Certified Calibration Technician (CCT) certification or equivalent is a plus. Six Sigma White or Yellow Belt certification is also advantageous .
• Experience with calibration management software ( EG:Beamx ) and CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
• Experience troubleshooting transmitters, analyzers , control valves, flow meters, pressure sensors, and temperature devices.
• Experienced in continuous improvement and root cause analysis.

Specific skills & Knowledge

• Proficiency with precision test equipment including multimeters , calibrators, pressure standards, temperature baths, and signal generators.
• Knowledge of ISO 17025 calibration standards and regulatory compliance requirements .
• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation including P&IDs, loop diagrams, instrument data sheets, and manufacturer manuals.
• Basic IT literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with calibration databases or LIMS systems.
• Understanding of process control principles, loop tuning, and instrumentation optimization for efficient manufacturing operations.
• Administrative competence, including experience with ERP systems, work orders and incident reporting .
• Troubleshooting skills with diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to document technical problems concisely.
• Excellent English skills, both written and oral, are essential. Basic Swedish and other language skills are a plus. You should have good communication skills and be able to work in close collaboration with colleagues from many different teams.
• This role requires the ability to stand for extended periods and perform manual labor in physically demanding environments. This can include 100% working hours allocation into clean-rooms and dry-rooms, while wearing appropriate PPE . The role also requires working shifts and working in multiple process areas, according to business needs.
