Job Overview
As a Medical Editor , you will be responsible for copyediting, proofreading, formatting, and offering suggestions for improving the language of scientific abstracts, manuscripts, slide decks, posters, and other client deliverables as well as any other projects as requested from senior editors or other staff members.
Responsibilities
- Copyediting to ensure consistency and conformance with established grammar, punctuation, and spelling rules, as well as adherence to AMA and client style guidelines
- Coordinate with rest of editorial team to ensure maintenance of house and client style guides and consistency of editorial reviews
- Ensure deliverables are of high-quality regarding clarity, accuracy, format, style, and consistency
- Review layouts to ensure that format, organization, alignment, and spacing of copy and graphics are consistent and adhere to established standards
- Work within copy deck formats that appropriately record changes, style decisions, source materials, and referencing requirements
- Review IA/wires/functional spec for branding and flow
- Complete assignments accurately and by the designated deadlines
- Work with internal teams in a respectful and productive manner
Education
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in English, journalism, or a science-related field
Experience
- 0-2 years experience as an editor in an agency setting
- Experience in a science- or mathematics-related field is preferred
- Editing experience is a plus, especially editing for medical journals/congresses
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong grasp of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling
- Meticulous eye for detail, both in language and visual presentation
- Understanding of AMA style is preferred
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
- Outstanding organizational skills and ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
- Able to work effectively and independently on multiple tasks within a deadline-oriented, fast paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Adobe Acrobat Reader; and, ideally, EndNote referencing software
Compensation Disclosure
The compensation range for this role is $58,000 to $77,000 CAD. Compensation will be determined based on an applicant’s skills, competencies, experience, and qualifications. Employees may progress within this range over time based on performance, tenure, and internal equity considerations. Red Nucleus Employees may progress within this range over time based on performance, tenure, and internal equity considerations.
