About The Role

Role Overview

We are seeking a Protection Application Design Engineer to join our team, responsible for the design, configuration, and commissioning of IED protection parameters, including logic, communication, and protection settings, for complex international technical projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define the optimal IED type to meet client requirements in accordance with protection schemes and project specifications.
  • Implement and validate LV/MV protection settings.
  • Develop and commission Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) logic.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of protection relays.
  • Design and implement complex logic functions within IEDs to meet customer requirements.
  • Configure communication IED descriptions (CID files) for integration with internal and external SCADA systems.
  • Define and configure IP and Ethernet networks between connected devices.
  • Support tendering activities by estimating engineering efforts and man-hours.
  • Provide site commissioning support, including integration with Electrical Distribution Switchgear (ED SWGR) and Energy Management Control Systems (EMCS).
  • Prepare technical documentation and provide technical and commercial support related to protection engineering activities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in electrical distribution, energy automation, protection systems, or commissioning.
  • Hands-on experience with communication protocols such as IEC 61850, Modbus, DNP3, IEC 103, and similar standards.
  • Advanced knowledge of protection IEDs, including Schneider Electric solutions (VAMP, SEPAM, MICOM, Easergy, Tesys) and other vendors such as ABB, Siemens, and SEL.
  • Experience with power metering devices, relay programming, and commissioning of advanced protection relays.
  • Proven experience with GOOSE messaging and SCD file configuration.
  • Strong understanding of ANSI/IEEE Standard Device Function numbers.
  • Experience preparing communication files for SCADA systems and performing signal and loop testing with EMCS and switchgear.
  • Knowledge of protection engineering standards, tools, procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in substation automation and protection coordination.
  • Exposure to international projects and customer-facing technical support.
  • Familiarity with SCADA integration and industrial communication networks.
