About The Role
Position Summary The Department of Pathology at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine is seeking a full-time academic Transfusion Medicine physician to join our exceptional faculty and serve as Assistant Director of the Transfusion Medicine service. This is an open-rank faculty position. Rank and tenure will be commensurate with the candidate's experience, qualifications, and funding. In addition to providing medical education and diagnostic services for Transfusion Medicine, the successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain a program in translational research at UIC. Duties Responsibilities Provide diagnostic services for Transfusion Medicine_x000d_ Along with the Director of Transfusion Medicine:_x000d_ Ensure test systems provide quality service in all aspects of testing – preanalytic, analytic, and post-analytic_x000d_ Provide clinical service coverage of Transfusion Medicine, including participation in on-call coverage of Blood Bank and Therapeutic Apheresis service_x000d_ Assist providers in interpretation of immunohematology test results_x000d_ Provide consultation on blood component selection, transfusion reaction evaluation, and immunohematology test selection for patients_x000d_ Evaluate and manage inpatient and ambulatory requests for therapeutic apheresis procedures_x000d_ Ensure that interpretative tests and consultation reports include all pertinent information_x000d_ Assist in developing a working relationship with Clinical Service Units_x000d_ Participate in management of critical testing and critical test reporting and monitoring_x000d_ Provide medical education in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine_x000d_ Provide education to medical students, residents, fellows, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows_x000d_ Monitor and assist colleagues and subordinates in the preparation and presentation of appropriate intramural and extramural lectures and conferences_x000d_ Participate in appropriate continue education programs such as in-service lectures for laboratory employees or medical staff_x000d_ Establish and maintain a program in translational research at UIC_x000d_ To actively participate in basic, translational and/or clinical research or investigative_x000d_ pursuits, including but not limited to, clinical informatics, clinical trials involving patients, new instrumentation or innovative testing methodologies, etc._x000d_ To collaborate in and cooperate with ongoing Departmental or inter-departmental research projects in the College of Medicine, other UI Colleges of School and/or external_x000d_ academic institutions._x000d_ To actively mentor and involve medical students, residents and fellows in research_x000d_ Perform other tasks as assigned by Clinical Pathology leadership to support departmental goals Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
