This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Linux Platform Integration - Ubuntu Systems Senior Engineer based in Spain.
This role offers the opportunity to work across the full Linux stack, from the kernel and networking to virtualization, graphics, and application <technologies.You> will help optimize Ubuntu for next-generation silicon and hardware platforms across desktop, server, and IoT <environments.You> will collaborate with specialist engineers and technology partners to deliver high-performance, reliable Linux experiences.Your work will contribute to complete system architectures spanning cloud, edge, devices, and enterprise <infrastructure.You> will support partners with application integration, SDKs, device OS images, and application performance optimization.The role provides exposure to advanced technologies and diverse industries, including robotics, data centers, telecommunications, retail, and <automotive.You> will join a globally distributed engineering environment that values technical excellence, autonomy, continuous learning, and open-source collaboration.
Accountabilities
- Design and implement optimized Ubuntu integrations for the latest IoT, desktop, and server-class hardware platforms and software stacks.
- Work closely with technology partners to deliver high-quality Ubuntu experiences tailored to their platforms and requirements.
- Take a holistic approach to platform integration by contributing to technical plans, testing strategies, quality metrics, and overall system architecture.
- Act as a technical lead on customer engagements involving complete architectures spanning cloud, edge, hardware, operating systems, and applications.
- Help partners integrate applications and SDKs, build device operating system images, and optimize applications across Ubuntu Core, Desktop, and Server.
- Work across the Linux stack, including kernel, networking, virtualization, graphics, packaging, and application technologies, to address complex integration challenges.
- Contribute to open-source engineering initiatives and collaborate with globally distributed technical teams and external partners.
- Apply performance benchmarking, profiling, testing, and automation practices to improve platform quality, reliability, and performance where appropriate.
- Stay current with emerging operating system, hardware, cloud, IoT, and application technologies and apply relevant developments to integration projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Demonstrated experience with Linux packaging technologies such as Debian, RPM, or Yocto.
- Practical experience working with open-source communities, projects, and licensing models.
- Strong programming experience with Python, C, and C++.
- Solid understanding of Linux systems and the ability to work across multiple layers of the technology stack.
- Strong technical problem-solving skills combined with resourcefulness, initiative, and a willingness to take ownership of complex challenges.
- Ability to work effectively in a globally distributed environment through self-discipline, self-motivation, and strong collaboration skills.
- Experience with server technologies such as UEFI firmware, GPU computing, RDMA/InfiniBand, or virtualization stacks is advantageous.
- Knowledge of graphics stacks and networking technologies, including TCP/IP, DHCP, and HTTP/REST, is a plus.
- Understanding of security best practices in IoT or server environments is beneficial.
- Experience with IoT or embedded systems, including boards and SoCs, BMCs, bootloaders, firmware, operating systems, applications, and services, is desirable.
- Experience with CI automation platforms, performance benchmarking, profiling, Docker/OCI containers, or Kubernetes is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills and experience presenting technical concepts to partners, customers, or wider audiences are valued.
- Willingness and ability to participate in in-person company events approximately 2–4 times per year, potentially requiring international travel, visas, or vaccinations.
