About The Role
DescriptionArrow is looking for an experienced Senior Purchasing Agent to join our team in Cambridge, Minnesota. This position plays an important role in supporting our pressure vessel and industrial fabrication operations by sourcing and securing the materials, components, equipment, and services needed to keep projects moving safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
The Senior Purchasing Agent will work closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, and other internal teams, as well as a network of suppliers, to balance cost, quality, availability, lead times, and technical requirements. This is an opportunity for an experienced purchasing professional who understands industrial manufacturing and enjoys solving problems, building supplier relationships, and making an impact on project execution.
What You'll Do
Purchasing & Supplier Management
Source and procure plate steel, forgings, fittings, pressure-retaining components, fabricated items, equipment, and services for pressure vessel and industrial fabrication projects.
Review material requisitions, Bills of Material (BOMs), drawings, specifications, and project requirements to determine sourcing needs.
Request, review, and evaluate supplier quotations based on price, quality, availability, lead time, technical requirements, and overall value.
Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, payment terms, and other commercial terms with suppliers.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with qualified suppliers.
Monitor supplier performance, market conditions, material availability, and potential supply risks.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure purchased materials, components, and services meet applicable drawings, specifications, ASME requirements, customer requirements, and quality standards.
- Verify requirements for material certifications, traceability documentation, Mill Test Reports (MTRs), and other required quality records.
- Review purchase order acknowledgements, supplier documentation, pricing, quantities, and delivery requirements for accuracy.
- Resolve purchasing and supplier discrepancies as needed.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information, quotations, purchase orders, pricing, delivery dates, and supporting documentation.
Cross-Functional & Operational Support
- Partner with Engineering, Production, Quality, and other departments to understand material requirements, priorities, and project schedules.
- Coordinate purchasing activities with production schedules to ensure critical materials and components are available when needed.
- Communicate material shortages, extended lead times, supplier delays, and other procurement risks that could affect project cost or delivery.
- Identify opportunities to improve purchasing processes, supplier performance, cost control, material availability, and overall procurement efficiency.
- Provide direction, motivation, and feedback to others on assigned purchasing-related tasks and serve as a team lead when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support business operations.
QualificationsWhat We're Looking For
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field required.
- An equivalent combination of education and relevant purchasing experience may be considered.
Experience
- 5–10 years of progressive purchasing or procurement experience, preferably in a pressure vessel, process equipment, heavy fabrication, or industrial manufacturing environment.
- Experience sourcing pressure-retaining components, plate steel, forgings, fittings, and code-compliant services preferred.
- Experience working with technical specifications, supplier requirements, drawings, and purchasing documentation in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Technical Knowledge
- Strong working knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII.
- Strong knowledge of ASME material specifications and pressure vessel fabrication processes.
- Knowledge of material traceability requirements and quality documentation.
- Understanding of purchasing requirements for code-compliant materials, components, and services.
