About The Role
Schmidt Industrial Services is an ~80 year old company with a long reputation of quality and customer service in three distinct business units which comprise of an ASME pressure vessel fabrication shop, a high precision custom machine shop, and a field based industrial coatings business. We have a broad customer base that operate in the oil & gas, chemical, power generation, pharmaceutical, and confectioner industries.
We are seeking a recent graduate that is looking for a unique job opportunity that will pair your technical degree with on the job equipment design and sales training. The ideal candidate will have a solid academic foundation in engineering, a desire for hands on learning, and an outgoing personality.
This is a hybrid role that combines technical curiosity, sales aptitude, and a customer-first attitude. You’ll assist with quoting, manage inbound requests, work closely with engineering to identify new opportunities, and grow into a customer-facing technical advisor.

Responsibilities
- Analyzing requirement documents, blueprints, and project plans to gain a thorough understanding of the project.
- Determining what factors of production will influence the cost of a service or product.
- Preparing material and cost estimates for the product or service in a timely manner.
- Creating project labor estimates.
- Evaluating suppliers by considering price, quality, availability, and other criteria.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with company vendors and contractors.
- Managing bids from vendors and contractors.
- Using bid data to prepare a detailed cost analysis such as the labor, material, production times, etc.
- Gather and negotiate quotes by subcontractors and vendors.
- Presenting prepared estimates to management.
- Compiling and recording actual costs.
- Collaborate with the General Manager, verify capabilities as required.
- Reviewing customer purchase orders to verify compliance with the quotation(estimate).
- Interacting with suppliers to schedule delivery times.
Financial Management
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and improve profitability.
- Monitor the production hours executed against the estimated hours assigned for each project, to ensure projects are profitable.
Client Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, and vendors, while understanding their needs and expectations.
- Stay apprised of industry trends and innovations that are applicable to the company to support continuous improvement.
Requirements
Job Qualifications
- Recent graduate (0 - 2 years) with Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with financial analysis, budgeting, and project management principles preferred.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where limited standardization exists.
- Competency in fact-based problem solving and analysis.
Technical requirements
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints preferred
- Skilled use of precision measuring tools preferred
- General knowledge of material types/grades and their machinability.
- Basic computer knowledge including Word, Excel, and CAD programs
