About The Role

Schmidt Industrial Services is an ~80 year old company with a long reputation of quality and customer service in three distinct business units which comprise of an ASME pressure vessel fabrication shop, a high precision custom machine shop, and a field based industrial coatings business. We have a broad customer base that operate in the oil & gas, chemical, power generation, pharmaceutical, and confectioner industries.

We are seeking a recent graduate that is looking for a unique job opportunity that will pair your technical degree with on the job equipment design and sales training. The ideal candidate will have a solid academic foundation in engineering, a desire for hands on learning, and an outgoing personality.

This is a hybrid role that combines technical curiosity, sales aptitude, and a customer-first attitude. You’ll assist with quoting, manage inbound requests, work closely with engineering to identify new opportunities, and grow into a customer-facing technical advisor.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzing requirement documents, blueprints, and project plans to gain a thorough understanding of the project.
  • Determining what factors of production will influence the cost of a service or product.
  • Preparing material and cost estimates for the product or service in a timely manner.
  • Creating project labor estimates.
  • Evaluating suppliers by considering price, quality, availability, and other criteria.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with company vendors and contractors.
  • Managing bids from vendors and contractors.
  • Using bid data to prepare a detailed cost analysis such as the labor, material, production times, etc.
  • Gather and negotiate quotes by subcontractors and vendors.
  • Presenting prepared estimates to management.
  • Compiling and recording actual costs.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager, verify capabilities as required.
  • Reviewing customer purchase orders to verify compliance with the quotation(estimate).
  • Interacting with suppliers to schedule delivery times.

Financial Management

  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and improve profitability.
  • Monitor the production hours executed against the estimated hours assigned for each project, to ensure projects are profitable.

Client Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, and vendors, while understanding their needs and expectations.
  • Stay apprised of industry trends and innovations that are applicable to the company to support continuous improvement.

Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Recent graduate (0 - 2 years) with Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with financial analysis, budgeting, and project management principles preferred.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where limited standardization exists.
  • Competency in fact-based problem solving and analysis.

Technical requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints preferred
  • Skilled use of precision measuring tools preferred
  • General knowledge of material types/grades and their machinability.
  • Basic computer knowledge including Word, Excel, and CAD programs
