This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer – CICS based in the United States.

This is a senior technical role focused on delivering high-quality software support and services for enterprise mainframe <environments.You> will serve as a key technical expert for CICS Transaction Server (CICS TS) and related OEM software across complex z/OS environments.The role combines hands-on systems programming, customer support, software installation, maintenance, and migration <expertise.You> will work closely with clients, project managers, disaster recovery teams, and other technical specialists to resolve issues and deliver critical initiatives.The position offers a remote, client-facing environment with opportunities to influence modernization, migrations, upgrades, and operational excellence.Success requires strong analytical thinking, independence, communication, and the ability to perform effectively under pressure.The role also includes on-call responsibilities, scheduled weekend work, and support across multiple time zones.

Accountabilities

  • Provide premium technical support to mainframe clients for CICS TS and related OEM software, including timely resolution of reported issues and customer service orders.
  • Deliver 24/7/365 support coverage across multiple time zones, including participation in on-call rotations, overtime, and scheduled weekend activities.
  • Install, configure, maintain, enhance, and upgrade CICS TS and applicable OEM products in accordance with established technical standards and best practices.
  • Implement vendor-specific fixes and corrections while following IT service management and change-control procedures.
  • Support customer operating system upgrade preparation by completing proactive technical activities and collaborating with other functional teams.
  • Provide technical expertise during new-customer migrations, working with project managers to address technical challenges and keep transitions aligned with target dates.
  • Collaborate with disaster recovery teams to execute technical tasks associated with customer recovery plans.
  • Manage implementation schedules and technical activities efficiently to optimize resources and meet delivery commitments.
  • Diagnose complex CICS-related issues, apply sound technical judgment, and maintain reliable, scalable mainframe environments.
  • Work effectively with internal teams and customer stakeholders to deliver responsive service, resolve technical challenges, and maintain strong client relationships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience working with IBM zSeries/mainframe platforms, including installation and maintenance of CICS TS and related OEM products.
  • Thorough knowledge of CICS TS capabilities, configuration, tailoring, installation, and administration.
  • Strong experience with IBM SMP/E and software installation and maintenance processes.
  • Solid understanding of CICS TS architecture, concepts, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of tools and products used to monitor CICS TS region performance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to investigate complex technical issues and identify effective solutions.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently while also contributing effectively within a broader technical team.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, short deadlines, and high-pressure situations.
  • Availability to work standard hours of approximately 8:00 AM–5:00 PM local time, in addition to required on-call, overtime, and scheduled weekend coverage.
