OPS Student Assistant – Computer Vision Video Analytics (CUTR)

The Motorcycle Injury Prevention Research (MIPI) Program conducts research and educational outreach to reduce motor-vehicle injuries and fatalities, with a focus on motorcycles and electric bicycles. The interdisciplinary MIPI team includes engineers, planners, and public health professionals with expertise in behavioral traffic safety.

MIPI is currently conducting video-based research to count motorcycles and bicycles on roadways. The program is seeking an OPS student assistant to provide Computer Vision Video Analytics support.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Detect and track objects in video data using computer vision techniques
• Install and collect video cameras in field locations
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Physical Demands / Work Environment

• Up to 20% travel for camera installation and collection
• Combination of office and field work
• Ability to sit, stand, bend, and lift up to 40 lbs
• Ability to work early morning or late evening hours as required

Minimum Qualifications

• Demonstrated proficiency with computer vision techniques (e.g., YOLO or similar models)
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to provide and receive timely feedback
• Ability to meet established deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

• Research experience in computer vision or video analytics
• Valid driver’s license
