Staff Accountant- Fixed Assets

About The Role
The Staff Accountant supports the Corporate Accounting Department in various tasks related to the monthly accounting close process including the analysis of financial performance of various TV stations, preparing monthly journal entries, complying with monthly internal SOX controls, and other accounting functions to assist with the monthly close process.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of monthly accounting journal entries primarily depreciation journal entries and general ledger journal entries for approximately 30 to 40 markets
- Complete monthly construction in process (CIP) reconciliations for designated markets (approx. 30 to 40) along with working with Chief Engineers and Regional Business Managers (RBMs) to appropriately review the designated markets CIPs for (i) capitalization, and (ii) review for items to expense if needed based on review of the project and applying GAAP accounting rules
- Maintain Station Fixed Asset records for a set of TV stations that are assigned including preparation of the monthly journal entries for depreciation, fixed asset additions and disposals in the Fixed Asset system
- Perform annual (around 4th quarter) fixed asset inventories for designated markets
- Scan manual/paper copy journal entries on a rotating basis to pdf and save on the shared drive
- Mail approx. 50 to 100 hundred checks on a rotating basis twice a month twice each week
- Assist depositing manual checks received along with booking the corresponding journal entry
- Review station balance sheet reconciliations monthly
- Review and or analyze general ledger accounts
- Perform AP edit reviews of operating expenses and capital
- Review sales tax on invoices for accuracy and inclusion vs. exclusion
- Prepare quarterly / annual schedules (roll forwards/analysis) for the external auditors
- Various ad hoc accounting projects as assigned by the Functional Controller
- Assist with the daily communications between Corporate and the Chief Engineers
- Perform certain other functions as needed
Requirements & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written along with attention to detail.
- Minimum two years’ experience in corporate accounting or financial analysis, preferably in the broadcast industry and/or a public company environment.
