As the Appraiser III, Property Building, you will provide quality control on large property damage estimates (up to $1M) to confirm they are complete, accurate and align with the scope of the insured loss. This cost containment includes assisting Claims Representatives in setting a proper scope of work for remediation and repairs, supporting the competitive bid process and reviewing estimates prepared by preferred and non-preferred vendors. You will support on-site scope setting when possible, considering loss location and appraiser location which may require significant travel, including overnight stays.

How you will create impact

Working with vendors and Claims Representatives to ensure efficient, timely and accurate building estimation and contribute to a client service culture and embed client engagement into the estimate review process.

Providing knowledge, support and peer coaching for Property Claims staff on large loss remediation, repair and general construction and vendor estimating guidelines and questions.

Recommending proper repair estimate values, offering guidance to adjusters on reserving and settlements, up to $1M in value.

Attending loss locations, to ensure accurate loss details are captured early in the process to enable timely and accurate estimate approval.

Inspecting damages and support the Claims Representative in scoping the loss, to support the preparation of accurate and timely estimates, considering like kind, quality, safety and cost control.

Understanding building codes, industry construction and remediation standards and provide subject matter expertise on large loss estimates.

To join our team

You have 6 - 9 years of property construction estimation, property field claim representative, restoration project management, or other related experience.

You have a post-secondary education in property construction estimating or other related field.

You have or are working towards the Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) or Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP).

You have the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) accreditation (IICRC) and Xactimate Level 2 or 3 certification.

You have expertise in assessing damage and estimating large losses related to Property insurance claims (Farm, Commercial, Habitational) and a background in building construction, insurance restoration or other related fields.

You have knowledge of building codes and other regulatory requirements that impact building construction, repair and restoration.

You have knowledge of vendor processes and general industry standards and processes relating to insurance restoration and construction.

What you need to know

You are required to have your own vehicle, valid driver’s license and insurance.

You have the ability to lift or move up to 25 kgs.

You will access loss locations where buildings are significantly damaged or where hazardous site conditions exist which may require the use of personal protective equipment and safe work practices.

You may be required to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends to attend large catastrophic events.

You will be subject to a Background check as a condition of employment, in the event you are the successful candidate.

Salary information

Expected salary range $72,847 - $121,411 (min-max, full range).

Salary placement

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.​

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
