About The Role

Key Responsibility Areas: GIS OFFICER

  • Establishes and maintains land use and zoning data sets on the geographical information system (GIS) of the directorate.
  • Prepares, captures and maintains up-to-date records of all relevant data sets for the GIS of the directorate.
  • Provides graphic spatial information and presentation support to various planning projects.
  • Manipulates, converts and/ or translates data to usable formats.
  • Produces maps and reports using GIS software.
  • Assists internal and external stakeholders with planning and development related queries.
  • Keeps abreast of the latest information technology and trends and advise management accordingly.
  • Supports special programmes and projects.
  • Gathers and collates statistics on development applications to ensure functioning of the department.
  • Undertakes administrative duties.
  • Undertaking all tasks of individual, division, branch and department performance plans.

  • Developing and managing the land use and zoning data sets on the geographical information system (GIS) of the directorate.
  • Supporting the establishment and implementation of a planning database system.
  • Preparing, capturing and maintains up-to-date records of all relevant data sets for the GIS of the directorate.
  • Providing graphic spatial information and presentation support to various planning projects.
  • Manipulating, converting and/ or translates data to usable formats.
  • Producing maps and reports using GIS software.
  • Assisting internal and external stakeholders with planning and development related queries.
  • Keeping abreast with the latest information technology and trends and advise stakeholders.
  • Assisting with appropriate training and support of unit staff in the use of the GIS.
  • Overseeing, mentoring, managing and directing the activities of junior staff within the division.
  • Gathering and collating statistics on development applications to ensure functioning of the department.
  • Undertaking administrative duties as may be required.
  • Undertaking all tasks of individual, division, branch and department performance plans.

Essential Requirements:GIS OFFICER

  • Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent and a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) certificate or any other related and equivalent certificate.
  • Valid motor vehicle driving license.
  • 2 Years relevant experience.

Preferred Requirements

  • Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) or any other related and equivalent qualification.
  • ArcView and/or Advanced ArcView GIS certification from an accredited institution.
  • 3 Years relevant experience.

Essential Requirements: GIS TECHNICIAN

  • Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) or any other related and equivalent qualification.
  • ArcView and/or Advanced ArcView GIS certification from an accredited institution.
  • Valid motor vehicle driving license.
  • 3 Years relevant experience.
