Senior ISM/SMS-HSQEE Compliance Officer / Auditor

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced, senior-level ISM/SMS-HSQEE Compliance Officer / Auditor to take ownership of a core pillar of COSMOS-SVM's service model — ensuring that Safety Management Systems remain audit-ready at all times, that non-conformities are tracked and resolved, and that seafarer competency remains linked to operational compliance.

This is a senior role with a clear path toward a managerial position as COSMOS-SVM continues to grow. We are looking for a candidate who brings not only strong ISM/SMS compliance expertise, but also the enthusiasm to keep learning, take on increasing responsibility, and apply that knowledge to help shape and scale COSMOS-SVM's offering as the company expands.

Main Responsibilities

• Supports the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of Safety Management Systems in compliance with the ISM Code, industry best practices, and applicable ISO standards
• Monitors managed fleets to ensure ongoing compliance with HSQE-related activities and Management System requirements
• Ensures Safety Management Systems remain audit-ready at all times, minimizing the risk of findings during internal, external, and Port State Control inspections
• Plans, coordinates, and participates in internal and external audits, both ashore and on board
• Supports vessel preparation for external inspections (SIRE, CDI, Flag State, and similar)
• Investigates and tracks non-conformities within the Management System, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are closed within set timeframes
• Assists with document control, including issuance and update of circulars, manuals, and controlled documents
• Oversee the implementation, set up and operation of our ERP software (MACK) which facilitates the digitization of SMS/TMSA/DBMS
• Uses digital Shipmanagement tools to manage SMS documentation, audits, inspections, and non-conformity workflows — including remote auditing and mobile checklists
• Links seafarer competency and training records to operational compliance requirements, leveraging digital competence and learning management tools
• Monitors and communicates changes in relevant rules, regulations, codes, and legislation applicable to managed fleets
• Contributes to record-keeping, reporting, and continuous improvement of the Management System
• Takes ownership of the ISM/SMS compliance function, with the scope to grow into a managerial role overseeing the wider compliance team as COSMOS-SVM expands
• Applies ISM/SMS expertise to help identify opportunities for improving and scaling COSMOS-SVM's service model and offering

Required Skills & Experience

• Maritime background, preferably from a shipping company, vessel, or maritime compliance environment
• Mid-Senior-level experience in HSQE, marine operations, or ISM/SMS compliance, with a track record of increasing responsibility
• Solid understanding of how SMS procedures, audits, inspections, and corrective actions work in practice
• Familiarity with the ISM Code, ISPS Code, MLC, DryBMS, and related maritime compliance frameworks
• Strong organizational and administrative skills with high attention to detail
• Strong written and spoken English
• Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
• Proactive attitude with a strong sense of responsibility, ownership, and teamwork
• Comfortable working with digital shipmanagement/ERP platforms for SMS, document control, audits, and reporting
• Genuine enthusiasm for continuous learning, with the drive to grow into a managerial role and contribute to COSMOS-SVM's development

Desired Skills

• Degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, or a related field
• Seagoing experience or background as a deck officer considered an asset
• Familiarity with SIRE 2.0, RISQ, TMSA, and related vetting/compliance workflows
• Experience preparing audit responses, CAPA follow-up material, or training/familiarization packs
• Prior experience mentoring or supervising junior compliance staff
• Prior experience working with a digital ship management ERP (e.g. remote auditing, e-checklists, electronic document/incident management)
• Fluent in Greek and English; additional languages a plus
