About the role

As a Data Engineer at OLX Lebanon, you will help own and evolve the company's modern data platform and ensure that trusted, timely data is available to the business. You will work across the end-to-end data lifecycle: integrating operational and third-party sources, building and maintaining reliable data pipelines, modelling data for analytics, supporting business intelligence, and operating the platform in production. The role is suited to an experienced engineer who can work independently and take meaningful ownership of a production data environment.

  • Own, operate, and continuously improve OLX Lebanon's production data platform and its core ingestion, transformation, and serving workflows.
  • Design, build, maintain, and troubleshoot reliable batch and incremental data pipelines from operational databases, APIs, cloud storage, and third-party systems.
  • Develop and maintain scalable warehouse models across raw, staging, intermediate, dimensional, and reporting layers.
  • Develop, optimize, and review SQL and Python used for ingestion, transformation, reconciliation, automation, and operational tooling.
  • Build and maintain transformation-as-code workflows using dbt or comparable modern data transformation frameworks.
  • Implement robust production patterns including idempotent processing, retries, schema evolution, scheduling/orchestration, monitoring, alerting, and failure recovery.
  • Ensure data quality and accuracy through automated tests, source-to-target reconciliation, freshness checks, and clear operational controls.
  • Own and support cloud data warehouse workloads, including performance, access, reliability, and cost optimisation.
  • Work with object storage and cloud services used for data ingestion and platform operations, particularly AWS/S3 and related services.
  • Support Power BI and the analytics layer by providing well-modelled, documented, performant datasets and by helping build or troubleshoot reports when required.
  • Partner closely with OLX Data Team as they own business requirements, metric interpretation, and an increasing share of Power BI dashboard development.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, marketing, growth, finance, advertising, and other business teams through the analytics team where appropriate.
  • Apply strong software-engineering practices including Git-based version control, code review, testing, documentation, deployment discipline, and reusable design.
  • Maintain appropriate data access, privacy, security, and governance controls for sensitive and business-critical data.
  • Document pipelines, models, dependencies, operational procedures, and architecture so that the platform can be supported by more than one engineer.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Approximately 4+ years of relevant data engineering experience for mid-senior candidates; Senior candidates should demonstrate deeper independent ownership rather than relying on years alone.
  • Hands-on experience building and operating production ETL/ELT pipelines and cloud-based analytical data platforms.
  • Strong experience with at least one modern cloud data warehouse or lakehouse platform such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Azure Synapse, Google BigQuery, Databricks, or equivalent.
  • Strong hands-on SQL and Python experience.
  • Familiar with dimensional modelling, analytical warehouse design, and working with large-scale datasets.
  • Understanding of dbt is strongly preferred; equivalent transformation-as-code approaches or strong SQL modelling understanding is acceptable.
  • Understanding of cloud infrastructure and object storage concepts.
  • Comfortable with BI and analytics workflows; familiarity with Power BI is a plus.
  • Excellent SQL and strong Python engineering skills.
  • Ability to diagnose production data issues independently across ingestion, transformation, warehouse, and BI layers.
  • Strong Git, code review, testing, documentation, and software-engineering practices.
  • Ability to balance reliability, performance, maintainability, and cloud cost.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues clearly to analysts, engineers, managers, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal English.
  • Show attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a continuous learning mindset.
  • Be driven, self-motivated, and able to handle pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Live the team values: Simpler. Better. Faster.
  • A fast-paced, high-performing team.
  • Learning & Development opportunities.
  • #LebanonOLX
