About The Role

DescriptionThe Wellness Specialist plays a key role in creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all members using the Wellness Center. This position is responsible for maintaining the appearance of the wellness floor through routine cleaning, sanitizing, organizing, and equipment upkeep, while also providing excellent customer service and support to members. The Wellness Specialist assists members with equipment use, conducts Ready, Set, Move orientations, and helps ensure that members feel comfortable and confident as they pursue their health and wellness goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide a welcoming and supportive presence on the Wellness Floor by assisting members with equipment use, answering questions, and helping them exercise safely and confidently.
Maintain a clean, organized, and member-ready Wellness Center by routinely cleaning and sanitizing equipment, organizing weights and fitness areas, restocking supplies, and addressing housekeeping needs throughout each shift.
Conduct Ready, Set, Move orientations and introductions to wellness equipment, helping members become comfortable with cardiovascular and strength-training machines while promoting safe exercise practices.
Monitor the Wellness Center to ensure members are following YMCA policies and contributing to a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all participants.
Perform basic preventative maintenance tasks as assigned, identify equipment in need of repair, and communicate maintenance concerns to appropriate staff.
Promote Wellness Center programs, group exercise classes, personal training, and other YMCA services, serving as a knowledgeable resource on the wide variety of opportunities available to members.

Qualifications

Must be at least 17 years of age.
Must possess or obtain Adult CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications within the first 60 days of employment.
Demonstrates strong customer service skills, professional communication, and the ability to interact positively with members, guests, and staff.
Must embrace and model the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to emergencies using sound judgment and established YMCA procedures.
Basic knowledge of exercise equipment, fitness principles, and safe exercise practices preferred.
Must be able to perform physical tasks associated with cleaning, organizing, and maintaining a Wellness Center environment, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the facility for extended periods of time.
