Senior Software Engineer - Backend/Fullstack

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Backend/Fullstack based in India.

This is an early-team engineering opportunity for a senior builder who wants substantial ownership over a rapidly scaling AI <product.You>’ll help develop and scale core backend systems that power AI-driven solutions for the insurance industry.The role combines hands-on Python development with architectural decision-making and product <ownership.You>’ll work closely with founders and experienced AI engineers to shape technical direction and build high-impact capabilities from the ground up.The environment is fast-moving, highly autonomous, and designed for engineers who thrive on solving complex <problems.You>’ll have the opportunity to influence both the technology and engineering culture as the organization continues to scale.This is an ideal role for someone with a founder’s mindset who wants to build transformative products rather than simply maintain existing systems.

Accountabilities

Build and scale core products: Develop backend and fullstack capabilities that are performant, reliable, scalable, and continuously improving.

Own backend architecture: Take significant ownership of backend systems and services, primarily using Python, while making thoughtful decisions around architecture, scalability, and maintainability.

Drive technical direction: Partner directly with founders and senior technical leaders to define engineering priorities, architectural approaches, and the technical roadmap.

Deliver end-to-end solutions: Translate product and business requirements into robust technical implementations, taking ownership from initial design through deployment and iteration.

Solve complex engineering challenges: Tackle difficult problems across backend infrastructure, AI-enabled product functionality, system performance, and reliability.

Operate with high ownership: Proactively identify opportunities, resolve technical issues, and take responsibility for meaningful portions of the product without requiring extensive direction.

Collaborate across disciplines: Work closely with engineers, AI specialists, product stakeholders, and company leadership in a highly collaborative environment.

Contribute to engineering culture: Help establish strong development practices, technical standards, and a culture centered on speed, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Professional experience: 5+ years of experience building and shipping software products in professional engineering environments.
• Backend expertise: Strong experience designing and developing backend systems, with significant hands-on experience in Python preferred.
• Product engineering: Demonstrated ability to build production-quality software and contribute across the product development lifecycle.
• Technical ownership: Comfortable taking ownership of substantial systems, making architectural decisions, and operating with limited supervision.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Problem-solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a pragmatic approach to tackling ambiguous and technically challenging problems.
• Startup mindset: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-output environment where priorities evolve quickly and engineers are expected to make an outsized impact.
• Founder’s mindset: Demonstrated drive, resilience, initiative, and willingness to take responsibility beyond narrowly defined responsibilities.
• B2B SaaS experience: Experience building B2B SaaS products is a plus.
• 0-to-1 experience: Previous experience taking products or major features from concept to production is highly desirable.
• Fullstack capabilities: Broader frontend or fullstack experience is a bonus, particularly for engineers interested in contributing across the product stack.
