About The Role
Tallgrass Integrated Logistics Solutions (ILS) is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Project Director to lead and drive the success for a energy infrastructure megaproject. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of developing and executing projects within the energy sector. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the project's success by efficiently managing contractors, long lead procurement, mitigating risks, and effectively managing stakeholders, both internal and external. This role would be a leadership role in the ILS Project Team.
Minimum requirements : The Project Director will be accountable for the development of complex execution strategies to successfully complete the work, including engaging with multiple execution centers around the world, third party engineering firms and specialty contractors. You will be directly engaged as part of Project Management and work with Engineering Management, Construction Management, Project Controls Management, and Supply Chain Management key partners in ensuring that the Project is fully integrated into the budget and schedule for the project. Develop overall Engineering and Design Execution Strategy, Construction and Commissioning strategies and ensure completion of the Project on time and on budget. Provide key inputs to the Project Execution Strategies (Modularization, Procurement and Contracting, Construction Pkg, etc.) and make strategic decisions that affect the cross functional areas of responsibility. Ensure alignment of engineering activities with the Procurement and Contracts Plan, and the Project Construction Plan and commissioning plan. Oversee and participate in Construction execution. You will be expected to drive a collaborative relationship within multi-offices and multi - cultural environments to meet project goals. In addition to leading the Project team, you will review and assess performance against the project’s engineering schedule, and handle changes to mitigate impact to the scope, budget, or schedule of a project. Direct internal and external resources to produce delivery on schedule and on budget, monitoring progress and performance. Empower the project team to meet critical goals. Participate in Risk Management Familiarity with the contents of fabrication and construction packages, typically: Piling and Foundation Design, Civil Design (Underground drainage, buildings, road, fencing, etc.), Shop-fabricated Pipe and Steel, Mechanical Design (Pipe & Structural steel), Electrical & Instrument Design, Insulation & Painting, etc.
Education: Project Director - bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction or Project Management, or equivalent from an accredited institution along with 15 years of relevant job experience. Experience/Specific Knowledge: Has previously acted as project director or manager with P&L responsibility on a project with a TIC of >$500MM within the energy sector, preferably a power project involving deployment of combined or simply cycle power generation. Proven track record in the management of basic and detailed engineering activities of very large process plants Proven ability and desire to mentor junior personnel on a project team. Strong organizational, communication and facilitation skills Ability to bring a team together to achieve project targets and goals. Good commercial awareness with ability to manage change. Must have 10 Years of experience in Major Projects environment with direct work experience in engineering or project management of major infrastructure or energy projects. Must have full complement of project management skills including project scoping and estimating utilizing work breakdown structures, cost and schedule control, design and construction management, team building, resource planning, procurement, and permitting. Must have very strong analytical skills that are required to develop concepts while working in partnership with Commercial. Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes. Must have prior experience in leading Project Controls; cost and schedule management tools, and successfully implemented them. Must have lead Cost Control management and extensive reporting background to upper management is required. Must have experience in using Primavera for schedule development, tracking, and control purposes. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including but not limited to the ability to present ideas, proposals, and results to business segment leaders and to internal and external customers. Ability to organize and prioritize daily work, including tracking and managing large projects, and see projects to completion while maintaining strict confidentiality (as necessary). Understanding of basic economic analysis as it pertains to project justification. Ability to identify and establish expectations in an employee/employer relationship (subordinate/manager). Solid leadership, communication, motivation and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage projects(s) that will include working with individuals with varying disciplines, backgrounds, and experience levels. Working knowledge of applicable regulations and agencies such as DOT, OSHA, and various state counterparts. Familiarity with DOT, NEC, ASME, API, and ASTM and other specifications, standards, and recommended practices typical in the natural gas or hazardous liquid transportation industry. Proficient in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook. Certifications, Licenses & Registrations: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel). Competencies, Skills & Abilities: Must be able to deal effectively with people and resolve conflicts and problems. Must possess well-developed interpersonal skills to manage, lead, and direct Tallgrass and third-party personnel. Able to analyze financial and cost data and develop conclusions and recommendations. Ability to accept direction and work effectively & cooperatively with others. Must possess strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with both company and contract employees. Must be goal-orientated, self-motivated, and able to work independently. Must have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Well-balanced interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communications skills are required. Must be a problem-solver with the ability to find resolutions. Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies. Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job. Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules. Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines. Ability to organize and prioritize daily work. Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate. Field activities may include walking to and amidst work and/or construction sites, climbing in and out of trenches, working around heavy equipment, negotiating rough terrain, areas of loose rock and working in confined spaces. Overtime may be required and is anticipated. Working Conditions: Much of the typical workday is spent in an office environment, though this may change, depending upon the location assignment. For work performed outdoors, weather conditions vary and can be extreme, depending upon location assignment and may include severe seasonal changes which are primarily influenced by geographic location. Must be able to work in all weather conditions. Must be able to communicate effectively with fellow workers and demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures. Overtime may be required and extended work hours in cases of emergencies. Required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours. The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit reports for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed. Supervisory Responsibility: Technical work direction and oversight of staff and contractors.
