We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our versatile development team and help build the next generation software platform for one of Applied Materials' strategic product lines. This is a highly hands-on role for engineers who enjoy taking ownership of significant features and product domains, working closely with Product Management, collaborating with architects and multidisciplinary engineering teams, and delivering high-quality software solutions. You will be part of a highly skilled team developing innovative products using modern technologies and AI-assisted development practices while solving complex software and system-level challenges. Our Group Our R&D group develops the industry's leading metrology and process control solutions for the semiconductor industry. The engineer in this position will join the development of a new software platform supporting one of Applied Materials' product lines. This platform is being built using modern technologies and engineering practices to support complex distributed metrology systems and future product capabilities. Working in Agile R&D teams, closely with Product Management, Software Architects, Algorithm, Image Processing, QA, Automation, System Engineering, and other R&D teams, you will contribute to building innovative solutions that are critical to next-generation semiconductor manufacturing. What you'll be doing: Design and develop software solutions for complex product features and systems. Take end-to-end ownership of significant features and product areas, from requirement analysis and design through implementation, validation, deployment, and ongoing improvement. Collaborate with software architects and experienced engineers to evaluate technical approaches and contribute to design discussions. Participate in the design and implementation of scalable, maintainable, and high-quality software systems. Work closely with Product Management and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into effective software solutions. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across software, system engineering, algorithms, automation, QA, and product domains. Take ownership not only of feature delivery, but also of the quality, reliability, maintainability, and supportability of the solutions you build. Drive quality throughout the development lifecycle through design, testing, code reviews, automation, and continuous improvement. Work effectively within modern software development workflows, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release processes. Use AI-assisted development tools as an integral part of the daily software development process. Contribute to the adoption and evolution of AI-driven software development methodologies and engineering practices. Continuously learn, evaluate, and apply new technologies, tools, and development approaches. What should you have? Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree. 6+ years of experience in backend/server-side software development. Strong hands-on experience in Java or other object-oriented programming languages and software design principles. Experience developing complex software systems and applications. Proven experience owning significant features or functional domains from requirements through production delivery. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and software design skills. Solid understanding of modern software development practices, including source control, build-systems, code reviews, testing strategies, CI/CD processes, and release workflows. Strong sense of ownership for both feature delivery and software quality, with an understanding of testing, automation, and quality practices throughout the software development lifecycle. Ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment. Eagerness to learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact. Advantages: Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized environments. Experience with Linux-based development and troubleshooting. Experience working on multidisciplinary projects involving software, algorithms, automation, QA, and product teams. Experience using AI-powered development tools as part of the daily development workflow. Hands-on experience leveraging AI-powered development tools, assistants, and agents as an integral part of the software development lifecycle and day-to-day engineering practices. Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, or workflow orchestration technologies such as Temporal, Redis, RabbitMQ, Apache Flink, or similar platforms. Experience developing web-based applications and user interfaces. Knowledge of the semiconductors industry. Who we are?
