Sessional Lecturer - MATH1850U - Linear Algebra for Engineers - Fall 2026

Location of classes: North Campus, Oshawa, ON Course Start Date: September 8, 2026 Course End Date: December 23, 2026 Job Summary: To be the instructor of MATH1850U Linear Algebra for Engineers (Sept 8 – Dec 23 2026) with in person lectures scheduled Wednesday’s and Friday’s from 11:10am – 12:30pm. MATH1850U course description: Develops the fundamental ideas of linear algebra and demonstrates their applications to other areas. Topics include the algebra of matrices; systems of linear equations; determinants and matrix inverses; real and complex vector spaces, linear independence, bases, dimension and co-ordinates; inner product spaces and the Gram-Schmidt process; least squares and regression; linear maps and matrices, change of basis and similar matrices; eigenvalues, eigenvectors and matrix diagonalization; quadratic forms. 3 cr, 3 lec, 1 tut. Nature of Work: In person course instruction as per the responsibilities outlined below; the successful candidate will be expected to utilize a technology-enhanced learning approach to deliver course material. This position will report to the Dean of Science. Responsibilities: The duties consist of preparing and delivering in person lectures, developing evaluation materials (assignments, quizzes, exams, etc.), managing the course website (Canvas LMS: posting course materials, student grades, assignments etc.), consultation with students (during and following completion of the course), marking, supervision of teaching assistant(s) (if assigned to give marking assistance), consultation with Faculty regarding course structure and topics etc, submission of grades and feedback to the Dean and Mathematics Undergraduate Program Director (UPD). The instructor will be expected to utilize a technology-enhanced learning approach to deliver course materials which may include online lecturing with a tablet laptop, and is encouraged to use current and innovative teaching techniques.
