About The Role
Job Description Production Head - Control Panel Manufacturing Unit Location: Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu Department: Production Position Summary The Production Head is responsible for leading and managing the complete production operations of the Control Panel Manufacturing Unit to ensure on-time delivery, quality compliance, cost optimization, safety, and workforce development. The role is accountable for achieving production targets through effective planning, resource allocation, material coordination, process improvements, preventive maintenance, and continuous implementation of Lean Manufacturing and PDCA methodologies. Key Responsibilities Production Planning & Schedule Adherence Ensure achievement of monthly, weekly, and daily production plans as per customer and business requirements. Monitor production progress and take corrective actions to prevent schedule deviations. Coordinate with Planning, Procurement, Stores, and Quality departments to ensure smooth production flow. Optimize manpower, machines, and material utilization to maximize productivity. Material Management & Coordination Ensure all production materials are issued and made available to the shop floor in advance, preferably during the previous shift. Coordinate closely with Stores and Procurement teams to eliminate production interruptions due to material shortages. Monitor material consumption, shortages, rejections, and excess inventory. Ensure adherence to FIFO/FEFO and inventory control practices. Workforce Management & Skill Development Ensure availability of qualified manpower for all production processes. Develop and maintain process-wise Skill Matrix for all employees. Ensure workforce competency development through Skill Levels (L1, L2, L3, and L4). Identify training needs and coordinate technical training programs. Build a multi-skilled workforce to support operational flexibility. Job Rotation & Resource Redundancy Implement structured job rotation across production processes to avoid skill stagnation. Develop process backups and redundancy plans to reduce dependency on key personnel. Ensure continuity of operations during absenteeism, leave, or business expansion. Quality Management Ensure production activities comply with established quality standards and work instructions. Drive First Pass Yield (FPY) improvement and reduction of defects and rework. Lead root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions. Support customer audits, internal audits, and quality improvement initiatives. Plant Maintenance & Equipment Reliability Ensure implementation of Preventive Maintenance schedules for all machinery and equipment. Coordinate with Maintenance teams to minimize machine downtime. Monitor machine utilization, breakdown analysis, and maintenance effectiveness. Promote Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) practices. PDCA & Continuous Improvement Drive the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) methodology across production, quality, planning, maintenance, and cost management activities. Lead continuous improvement projects to improve productivity, quality, safety, and cost performance. Establish measurable KPIs and monitor performance against targets. Promote Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and waste elimination practices. Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Ensure strict compliance with company safety, health, and environmental policies. Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments. Drive implementation of EHS initiatives and corrective actions. Ensure safe working practices and use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Strive for zero accidents and environmentally compliant operations. Housekeeping & 5S Management Ensure excellent housekeeping standards throughout the manufacturing facility. Implement and sustain 5S practices across all production areas. Conduct periodic audits and improvement activities. Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready workplace. Performance Management & Human Resource Development Conduct periodic employee performance evaluations and appraisals. Mentor and develop supervisors and team leaders. Support succession planning and future workforce readiness. Identify high-potential employees and create development plans. Maintain employee engagement, discipline, and productivity. Cost Control & Operational Efficiency Monitor production costs, labor efficiency, overtime, and material utilization. Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process optimization. Improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and shop floor productivity. Ensure efficient utilization of plant resources. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Production Schedule Adherence (%) On-Time Delivery (OTD) Productivity per Employee First Pass Yield (FPY) Rework & Rejection Rate Machine Downtime Preventive Maintenance Compliance (%) Skill Matrix Coverage (%) Training Completion Rate 5S Audit Score Safety Incident Rate Inventory Shortage Incidents Cost Reduction Achievements Educational Qualification Bachelor's Degree/Masters in Electrical Engineering / Electronics Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Production Engineering. MBA preferred Experience 10-15 years of experience in manufacturing operations. Minimum 5 years in a leadership role managing production teams. Experience in Control Panel Manufacturing, Electrical Panel Assembly, Wind Turbine Generator Components, Switchgear, or Industrial Electrical Equipment manufacturing preferred. Experience in implementing Skill Matrix and competency development programs. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Overall Objective: To achieve production targets safely, efficiently, and economically while developing a multi-skilled workforce and maintaining world-class manufacturing standards in the Wind Turbine Generator Control Panel Manufacturing Unit.
