Job Description Position: Production Benchmarking & Cost Optimization Engineer Department Manufacturing Engineering / Industrial Engineering Reporting To Engineering Manager / Production Head Location Manufacturing Plant(Coimbatore) Job Summary The Production Benchmarking & Cost Optimization Engineer is responsible for establishing standardized manufacturing methods across assembly lines to improve productivity, quality, and cost efficiency. The role involves conducting work measurement studies, developing standard operating procedures, preparing assembly station layouts and engineering drawings, designing gauges and fixtures, and supporting quality planning initiatives. The incumbent will drive continuous improvement projects aimed at reducing manufacturing costs and enhancing operational excellence. Key Responsibilities Production Benchmarking & Industrial Engineering Conduct time studies, motion studies, and work measurement analysis to establish standard cycle times for assembly operations. Define and maintain standard manufacturing methods and operating procedures across all assembly lines. Benchmark assembly processes and identify opportunities for productivity enhancement and waste reduction. Perform line balancing and manpower optimization studies to improve operational efficiency. Process Documentation & Standardization Develop and maintain detailed work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), process flow charts, and assembly manuals. Establish standard work practices to ensure consistency and repeatability in manufacturing operations. Support process validation activities and implementation of best manufacturing practices. Assembly Station & Workstation Design Prepare detailed engineering drawings and layouts for assembly stations and production workstations. Design ergonomic workstations to improve operator efficiency and safety. Evaluate and implement workstation improvements to reduce cycle time and increase throughput. Gauge, Fixture & Tooling Development Design and develop production gauges, inspection gauges, jigs, fixtures, and poka-yoke systems. Support manufacturing and quality teams in implementing effective inspection and error-proofing methods. Coordinate gauge validation, maintenance, and calibration requirements. Quality Planning & Process Control Develop and maintain Quality Control Plans (QCPs) and process inspection plans. Support PFMEA, control plan development, and process capability improvement initiatives. Collaborate with Quality teams to identify process risks and implement preventive measures. Analyze quality issues and participate in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation. Cost Optimization & Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to reduce manufacturing costs related to labor, cycle time, material usage, tooling, and process inefficiencies. Drive Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives. Support value engineering and productivity improvement projects. Monitor key manufacturing performance indicators and recommend improvement actions. Cross-Functional Coordination Work closely with Production, Quality, Design, Planning, Procurement, and Maintenance teams to implement process improvements. Support new product introductions and process industrialization activities. Assist in achieving operational excellence, quality, and cost targets. Position-Specific Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Electrical,Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline. 3-8 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering, or Cost Optimization roles. Experience in Time & Motion Studies, Standard Time Establishment, and Production Benchmarking. Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent CAD software. Hands-on experience in preparing assembly layouts, workstation designs, SOPs, and work instructions. Experience in gauge, fixture, and jig design for manufacturing and inspection applications. Knowledge of Quality Control Plans, Control Plans, PFMEA, and process validation methodologies. Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and Continuous Improvement tools. Strong analytical and cost optimization skills.
