Role Overview The Surgical Technologist performs in the primary scrub role during complex open-heart and general surgical procedures. You will work alongside surgeons, RNs, and operating room professionals to ensure a sterile, safe, and highly efficient intraoperative environment. Essential Responsibilities Scrub Role Execution: Function independently in the primary cardiac scrub role; actively assist surgeons with specialized tasks, including central and femoral cannulation. Sterile Field Integrity: Set up surgical instrumentation, handle sterile equipment, and maintain a constant watch to prevent any breach in sterile technique. Safety & Compliance: Participate in pre-operative briefings, "time-outs," and rigorous sponge, needle, and instrument counts throughout procedures. Efficiency: Facilitate fast room turnovers, perform light housekeeping, restock supplies, and pull case carts to maintain operational flow. Required Qualifications Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technology. Certification: Valid Surgical Technologist Certificate (CST) required at hire. Life Support: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire. Experience: Minimum of 2 years of full-time, current open-heart/cardiovascular experience acting in the primary scrub role. Skills: Mastery of aseptic techniques, deep knowledge of OR machinery, and the ability to maintain composure during high-stress surgical events. Preferred Qualifications 3 to 5 years of scrubbing experience across various surgical specialties in an inpatient/ambulatory O.R. environment. Proven ability to manage sterile core areas, reprocess complex instrumentation, and handle inventory management.
