This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an AI First Software Engineer based in Canada.

This is an opportunity for a software engineer to build and operate high-value digital marketplace systems at significant <scale.You>’ll work in an AI-first engineering environment where modern development tools are used to accelerate coding, testing, debugging, and documentation.The role combines hands-on software development with end-to-end ownership of scalable, resilient, and production-ready <systems.You>’ll contribute to customer-facing experiences and core platform services while partnering closely with Product, Data, Infrastructure, and SRE <teams.AI> will be treated as a practical engineering accelerator, while strong technical judgment, quality, reliability, and accountability remain <essential.You>’ll have the opportunity to influence platform modernization, introduce AI-enabled capabilities, and solve complex technical and business problems.This fully remote Canadian role is suited to engineers who are curious, product-minded, technically versatile, and eager to shape the future of software development.

Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, deploy, and operate scalable services supporting high-volume digital marketplace workflows and customer-facing experiences.
  • Build APIs and backend services within a modern, cloud-native and AI-enabled technology environment.
  • Develop and integrate AI-powered capabilities into product features, including pricing logic, negotiation workflows, automation, and other business processes.
  • Use AI development tools such as coding copilots, AI debuggers, test generators, and documentation assistants to increase engineering speed and effectiveness.
  • Apply critical engineering judgment when reviewing AI-generated code and recommendations, ensuring solutions remain secure, maintainable, reliable, and production-ready.
  • Design and maintain distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures where appropriate.
  • Partner with Product Managers to translate business and customer requirements into durable, scalable technical solutions.
  • Work closely with Data Engineering, Infrastructure, and Site Reliability Engineering teams to deliver reliable platform capabilities.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and provide operational support for live production systems.
  • Monitor and improve system reliability, performance, security, observability, and overall operational health.
  • Contribute to technical direction, engineering standards, architecture decisions, and the long-term modernization of platform systems.
  • Apply AI-assisted approaches to coding, refactoring, test coverage, debugging, root-cause analysis, documentation, and repetitive engineering tasks.
  • Take ownership of features and systems throughout their lifecycle, from design and implementation through deployment and ongoing support.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience building and supporting production software systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong backend development experience with one or more languages such as Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, .NET, Ruby, or a similar technology.
  • Solid understanding of APIs, distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, and modern software engineering principles.
  • Experience working with modern CI/CD environments and production deployment practices.
  • Experience with observability, monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident response.
  • Demonstrated ability to own features and systems end-to-end, including reliability and operational performance.
  • An established AI-first development mindset, with hands-on use of tools such as code copilots, AI debugging assistants, or automated test-generation tools.
  • Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs rather than accepting them without technical validation.
  • Curiosity about applying AI to practical customer and business problems and the ability to adapt as AI development tooling evolves.
  • Strong product mindset, with an understanding of how technical decisions affect customers, business outcomes, and overall user experience.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across Product, Data, Infrastructure, and SRE teams.
  • Frontend experience with React or TypeScript is an asset.
  • Experience with AWS or comparable cloud platforms is an asset.
  • Familiarity with microservices, event-driven architectures, SQL, and data-driven applications is an advantage.
  • Experience in marketplace, e-commerce, or other high-volume transaction environments is a plus.
  • Reliability engineering or SRE experience is beneficial.
  • Experience modernizing or migrating legacy systems is an advantage.
